If you got 12000 Rials cash and you have 12,000 bank loan..

Do you settle your loan

Or

Tke a risk by investing in any business or shares that's you may get profits from 12000 and settle you loan later..

Wht do u think??

I would pay the bank loan . Imagine the relief you will feel when you pay it off :)
And anyways as you said , it's a "risk" !

A suggestion , How about paying back 3/4 of the loan , and investing the rest ? It will be easier to pay your loan later , this way .

hello,

I think u better cover the loan and get rid of the heavy load.

at least you will have less worries in how you should pay the rest of the money. :)

It depends how heavy the load of the loan is on you and what it is you can do with the money if you don't pay off the loan. For example if I get any amount of money right now I'd use it towards building my house even though I have a loan. However, the biggest mistake people make when partially pre-paying loans is that they go and reduce the loan installment. If you ever pre-pay parts of a loan you should always continue paying the same installment that you used to pay before so that you pay it off faster and reduce the interest that you pay.

But yeah Mahmood. Settle the loan before other priorities pop up into your life from outta nowhere.

Settling half the loan and using the rest to build the house is one thing: building a house is a solid investment. Playing the stock market, for potential gains? my friend, that is an entirely different matter.

When playing the market, you arent paying back a liability that you owe (like the loan), or making a sure investment into your future (a house), you are trying to make use of an opportunity to further invest your financial position. The loan will still be a liability and will continue to weigh on you. And what happens if you lose that money in the stockmartet? You're in a much worse situation. Unless you are absolutely sure the investment will be good (see: omantel), then you're better off paying the loan.

Allah knows best of course :)

PT, but what if he strikes gold in the stock market and doubles his money. Then he settles the loan in full and still has 12K in his pocket.

I think so long as he doesn't blow the money on something useless like a holiday then it's ok to take a calculated risk.

If you put it an investment that has a rate of reutern more than the interest rate you are paying for the loan then go for it. Risk can be good sometimes. For example investing in those Omantel stocks.

Don't ever think about building a house or anything now. Building material prices are going crazy. I just don't understand why the price of steel would go up from 85 rials per ton to 190 rials per ton.
