I just got an email and read in several other forums that an Omani teacher shot 7 ppl in Minsitry of Education in Wattyah (mudiriah) and after a chase that ended up in Sarooj he shot himself!!

it seems true, but dont know any details .. as I heared the casualities are 3 including the man himself.

I just heard about it one hour ago.. And there are more details about it in sablat al3arab I think...

dont always listen to sablat al 3arab ... they like to add spices :)

A deranged teacher walked into the Director General of Education Office in Al-Watiyyah shooting four and killing 2 employees instantly working for the Ministry of Education. This incident occurred at 9:30am, where a meeting was being held in the Director Generals office with at least 6-8 people attending the meeting. The injured are in Al-Khoula hospital ICU, with no information being given as to their condition.

The real reason I am actually reporting this is that my Aunt working in the Director General of Education Office, and actually saw the man walking into the room with the gun. She and two other colleagues fled the scene (al-hamdullah) without being able to warn those who were already attending the meeting. My aunt then ran to hide behind her car only to see the teacher walk to his car and drive away. The man later shot himself after being surrounded by the Royal Oman Police who followed and located him in Ruwi.

May Allah help those victims in this tragic accident and many Allah give the strength to their families (Ina Il Allah Wa inah elh raji3oon)

they caught him in Shati AlQurum, on the main street in the same line as Intercont... he was driving a white Camaro... as he was trying to run away from the police, he got into an accident with a Taxi driver... since he was not able to run away, he killed himself...

Whats the reason for such cruel act?

The teacher was terminated by the MOE from his job since he would attend classes intoxicated or even not attend at all

he was an Islamic teacher...

I guess his motive was revange, as he was terminated...

As for the number of people killed in the meeting, what i heard is that 2 are dead

2 have been confirmed dead and the rest in ICU at Khoula :(

Oh my god a woman was injured too... i dont know its just sad and i feel so bad :( one of ma freinds was in the hospital for a monthly check up and he saw the tragic thing! it was a shock to him....

from what i know his name is 'mohd al salhi' , an islamic teacher.

Allah's mercy is on his soul now. Its definitely a sad tragedy for his family. But also all the people who got killed and critically hurt physically and emotionally from his actions.

alright this is the official informations per oman tv.

He shot 6 people. 4 men and 2 women. 2 men died immediately. And the over 4 are in critical to medium conditions. Admited to the hospital.

ROP chased him to Sharooj area and he hit a car and at spot killed himself.

The explained that the reason of such action was personal.

The case is under investigation. And more information will come to light once it is over and it will be published then.

That is what is officially declared so far...

We call it "going postal" since the first widely publicized case involved a US postal worker. Loosing your only means of support can send a person that already has mental issues over the top.

It is always very sad because most of the time innocent people are the victims as more than likely in this case. The survivors will be traumatized for long time to come. Let's hope they get the best of care available for a full recover.

This is what I can recall when i met him 9 years back in SQU.. when i was teasing him for some acts..

The guy has some mental.. the way his living .. drinking full night and teaching Islamic subject in the morning.. and he wasn’t in contact with his family frequently..

He was living in Muscat .. but is originally from Al-Suwaiq.. wher he studied his elementary and preparatory school.. and he then moved to Muscat and studied in Islamic institute in Wateya, in Muscat.. he finished his studied there and got good marks and he qualified to join SQU..

He studied in college of Education.in SQU . wher we met many times there..


Anyway.. regarding why he got sacked and what’s his motive of killing.. this is which I don’t know…

But if I know more I will update u..

Really sad , just read about it in Warda's blog and then received an email from my dad confirming the details. The difference in the email says that he left the meeting room or something , and he went after one more officer in another building to shoot him ! Now I think we have 500 versions of the same incident !

There are two building supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education. One being the Directorate General of Education and the other is an Administrative building. The teacher walked into the first building and shot the Head Master (who got 3 shots) of the school he had been terminated from. He then headed to the second where he walked into a room with 6 people shooting at random and killing 1 instantly, the others have been hospitalized in very critical condition.

This coming directly from a witness who saw and helped the victims.

well one of the men who got injured died today in the hospital... and he wasnt even working in the ministry.. he went to check his papers or something... and got shot allah yir7ama inshalla...

MUSCAT - A former, disgruntled employee of the Ministry of Education (MoE)
shot himself dead after killing three male employees of the Directorate-General of Education in a shooting incident yesterday morning, which also injured three others - one man and two women who were in critical condition yesterday, a police source said.

Mohammed bin Khamis bin Mubarak, a former teacher of Islamic studies at the
general education school in Wattayah, burst into the education supervision
department of the Directorate-General of Education in the Muscat governorate and opened fire upon a number of employees there yesterday.

Two were killed on the spot, while the third one succumbed to his injuries
later in the evening, an official source at the Royal Oman Police (ROP)
said.

Altogether six persons were shot, of whom four are men and two women. The
shooting occurred around 9.30am, sources said. The injured were immediately
taken to Khoula Hospital.

The assailant fled in his car, but the police gave hot chase that ended
seven kilometres away at Al Sarooj in Qurum when Mohammed Mubarak smashed his car into another vehicle and, probably realising that he had no other option, turned the gun on himself.

The police are investigating the incident, which they have described as an
issue of "personal" nature. Eyewitnesses said Mohammed Mubarak rushed into
the offices of the Directorate-General of Education, a two-storey building
located in Wattayah, around 9.30am. Immediately upon arriving there, he shot
at Idris bin Salim bin Said, head of Islamic education section at the
directorate, on the ground floor passage of the building. Idris was shot and
wounded in the leg.

Ministry officials and others rushed to the scene when they heard the gun
shot, but Mubarak warded them off, waving his gun around menacingly. After
this, he ran into the first-floor office of Dr Ayisha bint Abdulakhaliq
Mohammed, supervision director, and shot her. People ran helter-skelter and
there was major confusion, sources note. However, despite the pell-mell,
some officials managed to contact the police.

During this time, Mubarak ran down to the ground floor where he shot Yousuf
bin Suleiman bin Salam, deputy director of educational supervision; also
injuring him. Then, he returned to the wounded Idris and shot him again.

After this, he waved his gun around again and randomly shot at the people
there, this time felling Munira Al Balushi, social supervisor; and Qais bin
Salim bin Mohammed Al Saidi, a legal researcher.

Apparently, he had some extra ammunition (bullets) in his possession, with
which he replenished his empty revolver. The latter then ran to the
Directorate-General of Education, which was located three minutes from the
education supervision department.

There, he spoke to a ministry official, Hassan bin Abdullah, claiming that
he had come to see someone. But Hassan, realising something was wrong,
immediately contacted the police. In this period, Mubarak raced to the first
floor and shot Mohammed Al Wahaibi, the librarian there. Wahaibi was the
former director of the general education school in Wattayah, sources said.

Although Mubarak fled from the premises, the police were in hot pursuit of
him. Finally, they cornered him in Al Sarooj area where, in his attempt to
flee, he smashed into another vehicle, and his car came to a standstill.

The police took the injured to the nearest hospital, Khoula Hospital. But,
two of them, Idris bin Salim bin Said, and Yousuf bin Suleiman bin Salam,
were already dead. The third injured, Qais Al Saidi, succumbed to his
injuries later in the evening.

Mubarak was terminated from his services by the Ministry of Education for
his poor attendance and frequent absence from work, sources said uuu

my friend were injured and was in the hospital but he didn't make it :( allah yr7mo insha'a allah and his brother died in an accident befor 3 or 4 years....

i know it's the first time in Oman to happen these things but the question is how could that guy enter with a gun and keep shooting to the people without any one at least call the police, my friend wasn't in the same building that been shoot at the first he was in the next building...??
