Does winning a fight only depend on strength? If I were known to be a weak girl (IF that is, cuz I don't think I am) who happens to have learnt the techniques of the Martial Arts and all of a sudden I've been put in a ring to fight againts a huge muscular guy who has been lifting weights half of his life.... what are my chances of winning this fight?
Keep in mind: He's a dozen times stronger than me but slower and heavier.
Who would you bet on and why?

hmmm... seems like no one would've taken any bets... :mmhmm:
Should I clarify it then?... it's simple... who do u think would win? The girl or the guy? Give reasons for ur answer......

winning a fight does not necessarily depend on strength..it depends on the power of the mind and will power..if the person is not so muscular and he/she is to fight a hugh dude, there is a chance of winning(more chances if he know karate)..so it's not about strength..it's about power of the mind!!!!!

u would win...body builders dont know how to fight, only how to lift weights. That muscle is for show :p

what are my chances of winning this fight?Your chances would be slim.
Keep in mind: He's a dozen times stronger than me but slower and heavier. Who would you bet on and why?I watched a match between a accomplished woman martial arts expert and a LARGE SLOW male opponent with some skills.

She was able to deliver blow after blow with little affect. He missed time after time being slow and her ability to avoid the punches. When he finally landed one blow he knocked her out of the ring and she was unable to continue.

When there are overwhelming odds of this nature if the smaller opponent cannot deliver a decisve fight ending blow and quick ... they will be defeated most of the time.

:os.... loool.... different views there.... but that's what I was thinkin of... u may have will power as angel eyes said... but hitting him wouldn't really cause much damage if u were weak ;)... but how about using different techniques from the martial arts such as make him slip or fall.... and hitting him "aiming at the right places"... looks like the woman wasn't trained well... oh... and besides my friend... I used to watch wrestling before... but now... I'm afraid they bring it up all just for show... they hit each other fakely and it's always being planned... unless u were watchin another show...

If this guy is wayyy bigger and way stronger, as jack said, the girl's blows would have negligible effect on the guy.. so I'd put my money on the guy....

wanna have a go with him?

I do not know about you PT he looks like he is mad and able to cause damage. :D

But to answer TT's question. In real fights, it is how much strength you have, how hard you trained, and how fast your reflexes are. Unless, you were watching a Hollywood movie then yeah all you need is the heart and the will to win!

Your example here is a classical match up of brute strength and power against cunning speed and deception. Usually a standoff is the best call for such a match up. In my point of view, having all the strength in the world is nothing if you're not able to harness it, except maybe that you could endure a couple of blows from your opponent. However being a martial artist, its similar, aquiring an extensive knowledge about the martial arts is no good, if you cant carry out techniques with required efficiency and/or effectiveness :)

Does winning a fight only depend on strength?
No. Had you ommitted the word 'only' from that question I would've said yes with all confidence. Strength is always of the essence in fights, however whats the use of having all the power in the world if you're not able to harness it and use it to your advantage right?

what are my chances of winning this fight?
Depends on how much bigger your opponent is, and how good you are with your knowledge of the martial arts. However, you'd have to be a very tough girl, I mean really tough, to just be able to put up with that guy in a ring.

Who would you bet on and why?
I would bet on the huge muscular guy, simply because you can't fight for $hit! lol (j/k)
I would really bet on the guy given his shear size and power.

However keep this in mind, if you've ever witnessed someone being knocked out, or had the wind knocked out of them it only happens when they least expect it. They're the hits that you least expect that knock you out.

.... that's a little more encouraging AP... I was about to lose hope :(.......... I hate being the helpless one....
Raed... that guy's truly scarey... I guess if i was obliged to fight him I'd ask them to give me a year or more to work out first.....:os... but since he looks old, I'd hope he dies by then J/K.. :p

Lol PT... no one yet... this was just an example I gave for a question in my mind... cuz what bothers me is when people can't win in a quarrel of words and usually turn it into a physical fight... somethin like obuse... usually the weaker ones become the victims... so I was wonderin if those weak ones had a chance... in general...

LOL @ Tee
Well let me say this, its easier to accelerate a given mass with a certain amount of energy, than it is to accelerate a larger mass. According to Newtons law F=ma...
Basically the scrawny ones have the advantage of running as fast as hell.. and I assure you that you'd be able to run from a really huge guy before he even realises you're gone! :XD:

when people can't win in a quarrel of words and usually turn it into a physical fight... somethin like obuse... usually the weaker ones become the victims...
Very true... but if the example you gave was reformed to a more realistic match-up (in terms of size and strength), then the smaller fighter usually has the advantage of speed... and it is said that "Speed is a God given commodity".. you just wont realise how important it is to be quick with your hits or executing your techinques. :)
Lets say you're faster than your opponent with sufficient knowledge of techinques and strength, 3 fast effective hits is always better in my point of view than one huge blow when its too late! :D

LOL Raed

AP :D:... from what you say, I take it that speed in a fight is more effective than strength in itself...

so If u practice the techniques and possess its speed and strength.... i guess u'd be unbeatable eh? anyone who passes ur way would be done for!! :D....
If i get this right:

-the girl would have a chance of winning if the muscular guy fighting her lacks speed...
but if her strong opponent is quite quick and aware....:os fat chance eh? :(...

"from what you say, I take it that speed in a fight is more effective than strength in itself..."

Answer to that:

so If u practice the techniques and possess its speed and strength.... i guess u'd be unbeatable eh?
Well I'd say yes... but I wouldn't just stop there :)
And dont believe everything you hear, or even see in this case! Dimmak (aka the art of death touch) has been proven to be phony.. atleast with one great master of this art! :D

(Its basically about attacking your opponent at specific pressure points in the body, causing them temp. and permanent paralysis also death in some cases, by attacking nerves and vessels... bull! :p )

lol AP...I heard that somewhere before... I guess no guy could escape THAT no matter how muscular... but that needs a hell lota practice right?.... probably gonna take years to reach that level... and luckily anyone can learn it I guess:p...

but there's another thing... according to strength and speed... u can hit someone or something with very little force... but if u hit in the right way it could cause much more damage than if u simply hit with immense force (like how they cut those huge boulders in half!)...
another example is the discus: when I was takin part in the sports day my teacher made me throw the discus (even though I've never tried it before :os)... but what made me go mad was that in the warm up... I couldn't care less and just threw it with little force... but since my hands were quite loose and I let it go swiftly, it went further than all the others!!! -I just wished that was the REAL thing :(- could've won 1st place..... but ended up 3rd.

So I guess the way ur hands or legs meet the surface of what u wanna hit should be on the top of the list... above strength or speed!!... if that makes any sense...
