View Full Version : HeadScarf/Shiela
Blossom 11-06-05, 12:03 AM ~ which colour do you prefer to wear the black or the colourd ones?
~ do you have a certain style to wear the shiela/headscarf? if you do could you share and give some tips?
** the reason i ask this Q is that i noticed different styles, some will have one side of the shiela hanging infront, others will wear two one firmly on the head, and the other wrapped around loosely. andi would love to know how each style is done.
* I prefer black with some color/design. I hate plain and colored ones make me look whiter so I don't wear those much.
* Once around the head and then the rest over my shoulder. I used to do it twice but then I realised the lehaf isn't just meant to cover your hair ;)
Blossom 11-06-05, 12:27 AM so you usually buy ones with big width niggy?
Not big; medium (normal sized). I can't wear those tiny ones nor the blankets!
With abayas I usually wear black. But I don't really have that many coloured ones. As for style, I aint got it! I'm not too fussed about making a fashion statement. I just wrap it around my head twice to make sure it sits well and I'm off.
Does anyone know where I can get nice coloured shelas to wear to work? Something kinda plain and reasonably priced. I don't know where to shop for shelas yet.
for the past two months I have been wearing colored ones to work and everyone is saying it suits me more than the black ones.
But I do wear black from time to time.
I don't have a certain style.. just wrap it twice and I am done. But sometimes I would use this style but I don't know how to explian it :D sorry..
Dive, you can find nice colored sheelah in Harty complex or AL-Khoudh.. The price is very reasonable..
PinkDragon 11-06-05, 10:50 AM I wear Black..
and just wrap it once loosely
Blossom 11-06-05, 11:04 AM in al-harthy complex, there is this shop 1st level i think they got nice things... and the prices are ok. you could also check mazoon complex.
Diva, they're not reasonably priced but they are GORGEOUS. Go to 7anayen in City Center. If a shop could be a mahar, that would be mine :p
7anayin is too expensive.. I haven't been there yet but I heard about it.
That's why I said they aren't reasonably priced. Simple ones are at least 15-20 OR. I haven't bought anything from there yet but I've browsed a couple times and their collection is really great.
Arabian Princess 11-06-05, 03:18 PM Diva, there is a shop in alghubra .. near zuraiq (just beside arabic bakery - al makhbaz al araby if you know it). Its called Sheela .. Price wise, and collection wise its much better than alharthy in terms of colored sheela.
I wear black and colored ones .. depending on my mood and what I am wearing. I tie it twice and wear a "bandana- or how my husband calls it :D " under the scarf so it stays where it is and doesnt fall.
*FaLLiNG STaR* 11-06-05, 07:04 PM i never ever wear the coloured ones... i always wear black ones with coloured light desings in it... and ya i just remembered that i wear coloured scarfs from time to time... but they are really annoying.. they wont stay on the head for a long time... so u have to adjust it every 15 mins.....
i wrap the sheila twice and make two sides of it hanging from the left and right side... and sometimes only from one side which is the left one....
and ya they are going to open "Frist Choice" in CC *or did they open it?*... anyway its for abbayas and sheilas.... i saw my cousins in dubai wearing its abbayas and sheilas and they were really nice and stylish.
:)
Dam3eti 11-06-05, 10:00 PM normally i wear black shaila's with some designs....coloured ones rarely..i like the ones from promod though..
DeSerTDesTroYeR 12-06-05, 12:13 AM hmm, just a question. So far everyone mentioned 1 headscarf. None doing that double headscarf? As first tie one like a handkerchief and then a normal one over it?
Arabian Princess 12-06-05, 12:59 AM I tried that DD but I am not used it and I feel I look funny in it.

I've been doing that recently; I quite like it because it means I don't have to fuss with the scarf. But I end up looking really strict so I don't know if I'll keep it up.
DeSerTDesTroYeR 12-06-05, 10:29 AM So it could looks funny and strict. The thing I noticed, is that the girls/women in general keep on fixing their headscarf every few minutes to avoid it opening or slipping. Personally, I find that quite annoying :p Thats why the double style seemed as a method to avoid such disadvantage in the single scarf style. Anyway, thanks for the input.
Arabian Princess 12-06-05, 11:53 AM yah DD I agree with you, this is why I wear a piece which is like a bandana under the scarf, it makes the scarf less slipiry but its not visible .. I used to wear a short cotton tie under the scarf but with the hot weather nowadays its hard to wear it .. so I stick to the oher one now :)
Blossom 12-06-05, 12:33 PM never tried the double thingi, thanks for sharing that guys

I use that style sometimes, and I like it as it stays on the head and don't have to fix it every now and then.. But I do it in a different way and I think it looks good on me :D
But I don't use this style much cuz it requires the sheelah to be a bit tight and I get a headache from that easily..
Fast_HacKinG 12-06-05, 03:39 PM Sorry too to interfere here but I got some questions for you ladies :D
- Do you usually buy the headscarf or shiela with the same design as the Abaya?
- One of you mentioned small, medium and big shielas? what's the diffence on wearing them? Do you have to wear certain size for certain occasions? ( let's say wedding party? or I don't know )
- Does age matter with the size of the shiela? ( weird question huh? ) but I have seen that girls from 11-16 or 17 wear those small ones and 17-24 different ones and so on !! I might be wrong here but duh :yuk:
Arabian Princess 12-06-05, 03:46 PM - depends where I make my abaya .. but its always a postive thing to make a shiela simmiler to an abaya
- Nothing is different.. the only thing is how you wear it. I have few wide one and I find them hard to wear when you do the double style ... otherwise its always astar to wear wider la7af though it could look messy
- young girls usually prefer short shiela .. coz they are small and wearing a wide one could make them look messy and would stop thier movment (holding the sides of the wide shela if they are running mathalan :p )
*FaLLiNG STaR* 12-06-05, 06:30 PM - Do you usually buy the headscarf or shiela with the same design as the Abaya?
no not always.. i usually wear i plain abbaya.. with no designs and a designed sheila.
- One of you mentioned small, medium and big shielas? what's the diffence on wearing them? Do you have to wear certain size for certain occasions? ( let's say wedding party? or I don't know )
well the small size only if u want to wrap the sheila once.. and the meduim and large to wrap it twice *i guess so* :p

i never noticed that... but it doesnt make a lot of difference..
Dam3eti 12-06-05, 06:31 PM - Do you usually buy the headscarf or shiela with the same design as the Abaya?
Yeh for each 3abaya i have a matching shaila..but then i have a couple of plain 3abaya's to wear with different shaila's
- One of you mentioned small, medium and big shielas? what's the diffence on wearing them? Do you have to wear certain size for certain occasions? ( let's say wedding party? or I don't know )
hmm i think they vary in lengths i use the medium to large ones there's this size tht the store i deal with knows..i cant remember..i wrap it once and leave a bit hanging down... i dont think they vary on certain occasions..although i use different materials for wedding parties..
