View Full Version : The SATs!
TripleTee 29-05-05, 03:18 PM Who's taken it?... How did u approach it?... Was time a problem to u?... What was easier... the maths or the english part?... the reasoning or the subject tests?.... How did u start preparing for it?... Do u consider it difficult or easy to select the answer for the multiple choices? Share ur experiences!
I have taken it... and I admit it was difficult... but awesome, since that's what I call a real exam :p!
CrazyReD 30-05-05, 01:36 AM I took it
The english was difficult math was kool but suprisngly i got higher grade in english lol
Pineapple Thief 30-05-05, 01:53 AM I did it...I got almost the same grade in english and math...I did about a week of study for it, nothing heavy :p I got a better than expected result which is cool.
TripleTee 07-06-05, 11:26 PM looks like a very few have taken this test.... hehe... it was quite a killer I must say... some would consider multiple choice questions quite easy... but not when ur wrong answers are being deducted from ur grade eh?......
I wanted to ask though... how exactly do u get ur marks from the net after taking the test?
Pineapple Thief 07-06-05, 11:27 PM I think, if you apply thru the website (forgot the address) only then can you get ur results online. Otherwise wait for the mail. :p
TripleTee 07-06-05, 11:37 PM It's collegeboard.com ;)no signs there though.... I take it you and CR were willing to study in the US since u've taken the test... or have already studied there :os... I just took it for a try... no practice at all.... but boy am i glad i actually took it... at least i know what it's like now... I'd be goin for the subject tests next...
Pineapple Thief 08-06-05, 12:18 AM Well, I was open to study in the US, but I went to the UK instead. I never needed the SAT either, i did it 'just in case' :)
Fast_HacKinG 08-06-05, 01:38 AM You know what I am doing on my vacation now ? Studying SAT book :P
This thread might help you a bit?

I need people for encouragement !!
TripleTee 09-06-05, 04:33 PM wow.... I'm already sweating!!!... those are words I've hardly ever come across FH... awesome... inshalla I'll take part after finishing my SAT practising book ;)...
P.S.. reading them makes me feel like I've never taken english before :(
Fast_HacKinG 09-06-05, 06:29 PM P.S.. reading them makes me feel like I've never taken english before :(
Yeah just tell me about it
I did it for fun! As weird as that might sound. Like PT I did it just in case, but I never had the intention of going to the States, and strange enough, I had problems with registrations and never received my scores. lol
Didn't need it after all, I stayed here!
Libellula 29-06-05, 02:24 AM I did both the SAT reasoning and the subject testst.
I signed up for both at the CollegeBoard website and paid with a credit card. It's just so much faster that way.
In the SAT I, I found the Verbal so much easier than the Math. I suck at Math, lol :) I got a 490 in Math (this was without a calculator, since I forgot to take mine), and I got a 620 in Verbal.
For subject tests (SAT II) I did Writing, Math and English Literature.
I hated taking the SATs, it was soooo boring.
TripleTee 29-06-05, 02:32 AM wow... hehe... thanx for sharing phoenix... I did the reasoning test... I guess I was the same... better in the verbal :os... didn't try the subject tests yet though... I hope they aren't as difficult...
Fast_HacKinG 29-06-05, 12:36 PM What was the boring part on SAT Phoenix? :)
Wardat_il'7leej 29-06-05, 01:29 PM There is a new system and implementation of the SAT exam for 2004-05 onwards
Major changes:
~ A new writing section will be added and students will be asked to write an essay
~ Multiple-choice questions on the PSAT and SAT Subject Test in Writing will be included
~The verbal section will be renamed critical reading. Short reading passages will be included, and will measure the kind of reasoning formerly measured by analogies.
~The new math section is being expanded to reflect the mathematics that college-bound students typically learn during the 3 yrs of high school. Quantitative comparison questions will be eliminated.
TripleTee 29-06-05, 01:50 PM :os.....wow... thanx for the update Warda... yes... I've taken the essay writing and all the rest..except for the subject test... oh no no... u don't want to know what I wrote... :p... but I guess since I've been in sabla I've had a kinda discussing attitude... I used it on the essay :os... inserting questions.... damn I was laughing from the inside... I wonder how much I got... now I actually wanna know...
Pineapple Thief 29-06-05, 02:12 PM So when do you get your results?
@ phoenix: your overall score is pretty good :) I never did SAT II, that was just too much effort :p
TripleTee 29-06-05, 02:17 PM I'm supposed to have had my results by now... oh well...I heard they'd send it to u... i dunno what went wrong, but I'll call MC again and check... I'll look it up online... though I'm too scared to take a look :os... since it was only a try and I'm not expectin a good score... but anyways...
Pineapple Thief 29-06-05, 02:23 PM Actually, I've read that studying hard for it only marginally increases your score. Apparently its not really the type of exam you can study too much for (even the verbal)...similar to an IQ test. Not sure how true that is.
Good luck, let us know how it went :)
TripleTee 29-06-05, 02:37 PM thanx PT... inshalla I will... oh, and that IQ thing is very true!!... especially in the maths section... I could sense it :p... the questions require a lot of thinking... but there are certain rules u have to follow in order to get a high score ;) one is called the 2-5 rule I guess... applies to multiple choices... they give u 5 choices... u should know that 2 of them is absolutely not true and far away from the answer... 1 is in the middle, could be true but not exactly... and the other two are very close to each other... but only ONE of them could be the answer... to me that was always the tricky part... but I enjoyed it :p... what one can do is learn all kinds of difficult words... since there are so many.. there was one question I left out cuz i didn't know the meaning of one word and due to that I couldn't answer the question.... how irritating... I kept reading it many times... to no avail... well... I'll share my score as soon as I know it...
Angel_Eyes 29-06-05, 03:34 PM Wow Triple Tee.....Taken the SAT's eh? Well ,we are all looking forward to knowing the scores...good luck girl!
Libellula 29-06-05, 07:53 PM What was the boring part on SAT Phoenix? :)
The whole thing!! I slept half the time when I was taking the SAT II, partly because I was bored and partly because I hadn't slept the night before. I only took it because one of the American universities I was applying to required it. Haha, I remember thinking, "Ah, screw it, I don't care about this anymore" but surprisingly I got accepted by the university. Based on my scores, I should'nt have.. but that just proves that they don't judge or make their decisions based on just one thing. :)
Libellula 29-06-05, 07:55 PM @ phoenix: your overall score is pretty good :) I never did SAT II, that was just too much effort :p
Yeah, I got the highest overall out of my friends :p And I got the lowest score in Math. They all did better in Math than Verbal.
Libellula 29-06-05, 07:56 PM I'm supposed to have had my results by now... oh well...I heard they'd send it to u... i dunno what went wrong, but I'll call MC again and check... I'll look it up online... though I'm too scared to take a look :os... since it was only a try and I'm not expectin a good score... but anyways...
This is why you should've signed up online, cos you get to see your score online before they send the official score reports out in the mail
Took the SAT in 1967 ... as I remember the score was 875. We were not allowed to use a calculator. Of course none of us could afford a calculator. You could use a slide rule.
TripleTee 29-06-05, 11:10 PM lol... now that is interesting...
oh and phoenix... my parents never trust to pay online... don't ask me why... they like complicating things :mmhmm:... i wasn;t bothered to argue... I mean... as long as I get it, that's all that matters ;)....... but hey... even if u register another way... ur scores'll still be desplayed... I just heard u need a code number or whatever... I was actually on standby :hmm:
CrazyReD 30-06-05, 12:22 AM i got 900+ but then found out i don't need a SAT to enter the uni i'm in so didn't have to retake it
TripleTee 30-06-05, 12:25 AM hey CR... not bad... not bad at all!!... for the first try that's very good :D
Pineapple Thief 30-06-05, 12:38 AM I got 660 in verbal and 670 in math...which kinda sucked for my other friends who had done it thrice at least and werent getting the scores they wanted, lol
TripleTee 30-06-05, 12:43 AM lol... wow PT... looks like we have clever people here :D hehe :p... that's good to know...
Pineapple Thief 30-06-05, 12:53 AM thanks :) but I dont think SATs are an accurate representation of how smart you are. I think they only give a very rough indication. I think I was just lucky, and others were unlucky (especially since one of the ppl who was getting 1070 consistently actually got higher grades than me in school quite often).
oh well, in the end it counts for nothing :)
TripleTee 30-06-05, 12:58 AM no no, sorry to differ PT... Einstein was the worst in his school... yet he became the world's most known scientist... that should say somethin ;)...
