This is another site in our beautiful Oman I would like one day to visit and camp as well ;)
heres some Info about this Great Mountain:

OFTEN hailed as the Sultanate's own version of the Grand Canyon!!!

JABAL Shams, rising some 3,000 metres above sea level, stands almost sentinel-like over the mountainous landscape of the Interior region. It is this lofty feature of Jabal Shams that distinguishes it from other mountains in Oman and the neighbouring countries. The summit glitters in the morning sunshine and is bathed in gentle hues at dusk.

Average temperatures on the summit of Jabal Shams are somewhat equivalent to those in most of the European countries. In summer daytime temperatures do not exceed 38ºC at 2,000 metres above sea level. At night, the temperature drops to 25ºC.((and here In Muscat It reached 46 c today!! phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww))

But it is the rocky promontories and steep gorges that makes the Jabal Shams a major attraction for tourists, especially in summer. Visitors are drawn by its varied geographical features, while many come here simply to ponder the majestic grandeur of the peaks and gorges.

Wadi al Nakhr, which features a large pool of water, is a major tourist landmark in Jabal Shams.

It lies on the road to al Hail and Al Khateem villages. As a popular camping site, it affords expansive views of the low-lying areas especially in winter when there is hardly any ambient haze.

Much of Jabal Sham’s grandeur can be enjoyed during a visit to Al Khateem village, which lies on the edge of a gorge and provides dramatic views of the mountain slopes and even the wilayats of Al Hamra and Bahla in the distance.
Falcon’s View is a point up in the mountains from where stunning panoramas of the landscape can be enjoyed. On the western side of the Jabal, the imposing might of Jabal Koor, which lies between the Dakhiliya (Interior) and Dhahirah regions, can be seen. Also visible from here is Jabal Mosht, near Wadi al Ain in the Ibri area.

Given Jabal Sham’s importance to tourism, a modern camping site has been set up for the benefit of tourists. This facility comprises five independently built rooms with toilets ensuite, as well as five open-style units. There are also public toilets and a prayer area. There are plans to add a restaurant in the future. Nevertheless, tourists can cook their own meals in the resort’s kitchen with permission from the management
