View Full Version : Opera House Here??
RubberDucky 30-03-05, 09:37 AM I heard a rumor about an opera house under construction as we speak, here in Muscat … does anyone know how “true” this rumor is ?
And also how good is the market for such a venue here in Oman ? :hmm:
although just the other day me plas and myself were talkin about the opera house in dubai !! for me its great news that is if its "true" :hbd:
Blossom 30-03-05, 12:16 PM never really understood the deal about the opera, and i don't think it will be a big hit in Oman....but who knows?
Pineapple Thief 30-03-05, 12:23 PM It would be awesome. Two of my flatmates in the UK are amateur opera singers, so u can imagine that its an interesting flat :D
But i dont know how viable it is here. there seem to be a lot of new projects, but how many are realistic?
opera? oman? doubt that it will do well.
the phantom of the opera movie was in cinema's in oman for only a week and then it got pulled cause of the low demand...and thats a movie. how about the real thing then?
and anyways.. it just seems like a rumor to me..doubt its going to happen.
KING_OF_ALL 31-03-05, 08:41 AM I can smell April fool arrival here!!!
I forgot to say Mr.Pavarotti is my favourite but he has retired recently:(

I've seen the play of phantom of the opera twice and i loved it .. i think it will be great if we'll have one in oman, although i doubt it that many will be interested.
el7ilwa 31-03-05, 11:29 AM If this is true, it will be fabulous :)

And that wasn't even an opera. That was a muscial.
It seems that if the majority of Omanis don't appreciate musicals (which are a lot of fun) doubt that they will like the opera.
But perhaps that opera house is not targeted towards the locals. ;)
Arabian Princess 31-03-05, 05:36 PM if they are opening one, I doubt they will target locals.. mostly expats I guess.
ReVeLuTiOnAl^ 01-04-05, 10:43 AM If this is true, it will be fabulous :)
What's fabulous about it?...
Having some girls need to restyle their hair...or presenting a new shaving machine that doesnt harm the skin...
RubberDucky 02-04-05, 08:21 AM oh too bad ... i personaly feel that there might have been a great deal of interest in the project ... as an opera house is not only used for opera but also concerts and we so have the royal orchestra .... ah well :(
Kazablanka 02-04-05, 07:21 PM As long as the opera house isnt near where I live, I'm good
TripleTee 02-04-05, 08:20 PM my friends watch opra all the time... to them it's quite interesting cuz all u need to do is switch on the TV. but to actually go for a talk show or a concert... i think ppl in Oman are too lazy for that... but I still think it's quite surprising u say it wont work here... seeing it in real life is different from seein it in movies!! I believe they WOULD go... (not because they're interested in Opra but because they've nothin better to do!)
ToomuchaT 02-04-05, 10:27 PM .. maybe it's April Fool !! *somehow!*
.. we have the best opera in the world!! .. elshaib khamis leads them all!! :afro:
RubberDucky 06-04-05, 11:57 AM i reckon some of us are confussed about an opera and the opra on telly !!! iam not talkin about the tv show .. i hope that clears some confussion !!!
iam talking about a big building that holds concerts and orchestra, and the big fat Italian singers ( ok some are not bgig nor fat but i was being sarccyyy sowwyyy) baaahumbugggggggggggggggggg ... acha never mind !!
Omanis can barely fill up movie theaters; you expect them to go to the opera? lol, good luck! We barely have art galleries and museums (all the high class pop culture) I really doubt this is happening.
How about a house for selling "bober"?
fatamooo 25-04-05, 05:05 PM What's bober?
Opera is a tough thing to pull off - I think it could either be really successful or a big failure, it would be quite daring. I wonder how the building would look like...
Guys I think it might be something like a huge theatre complex, as I heard it that way from some one in Ministry of Heritage and Culture. I heard from her as it would play a good role in motivating Omanis with different art talents. I don't know how much of this is true, but heard it is a project that is being proposed to the government by Ministry of Heritage and Culture, they think the amphi theatre isn't enough, but they need bigger ones to play good ones, as well as to exhibit other cultural functions to foreigners and visitors of Oman.
I'm not sure of the above though, but yeah that is what I heard.
CookieMonster 15-05-05, 11:09 AM Opera? boooriiiiiiing
if its true, i think would be GREAT... good relaxation at the weekend after a tough week at job...
