The First Time I heard about This Name was around 6 years ago through my brother (geologyst). This HUGE Gigantic Cave *called Majlis AL Jinn* (Creepy name) can fit size of 5 hotels Like Al Bustan Palace Hotel!!!

Its NOT the Largest cave/sinkhole in the World though...Actualy the Assumed Largest one is Maybe The One discoverd in South of Oman
called Teyq cave . which is 75 times bigger than the Majlis Al Jinn. (1999 info http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Lagoon/9370/Teyq.htm

I Think Such a Place is a Must for me to visit one day!!!!
and I think That Majlis Al Jinn can be a Good attractive Site for Tourist IF it can be developed in a way providing all the facilities and make it a safe place for tourism.

Majlis Al Jinn or Kehf Salma as they call it is the 3rd largest cave in the World, where the 1st largest one is Teyq cave as you mentioned Thug4Life.

It is in Sharqiya a few miles inland from Tiwi. It's quite hard to find as you can't see it unless you are close to it. But a lot of that area would be nice for tourists if there were good guides and instructors for prussicking into the cave (a thing where you use two ropes tied round one long rope and lower yourself safely and climb back up it again). And you need someone to sell "My brother went to Majlis al Jinn and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" souvenirs, and Chips Oman and Suntop.

It's an amazing place..i've been there for a school trip..it was GREAT!

I wonder if they can make it a tourist attraction without runing the place

in newzealand I visited a cave was suprised by the number of torrist that come there would be nice to have something like that done in oman but does anyone know about it's history?

If I am not mistaken, it is a tourist attraction and a major one too. It would probably be more popular among regional and local tourists than foreigners. I am guessing thats due to the lack of attention. It should, as mimo explained, be highly modified and equipped in order to allow for maximum benefit, also providing qualified tour guides.

I have heard that some 20+ jumbo jets (747's) can fit inside "Majlis Al-Jinn"

An unknown fact about Oman is that, as an ancient arabic civilization, many myths were carried down from old ages Arabs very much believed in witchcraft (white and black magic), in Genies and in the super natural. Oman can very well be one of the best supernatural-tourist destinations in the Gulf, and not only limited to Muscat: 1- in Dhofar: Go to Khor Rouri, it is local belief that it's the meeting spot of all the top witches and sorcerrors of the world, you won't find a single local there on a thursday (meeting day). I understand there are some rocks naturally shaped like a round table with chairs..I'm yet to confirm that. 2- in Sharqiyah Region(next to wadi shab): go to Majlis al Jinn (literelly genies/spirits sitting room) Even if you don't find genies, Majlis Al Jinn is the second largest cave chamber in the world. Worth the visit. Majlis Al Jinn itself was discovered in 1983 by Don Davidson, a geologist. 3- Not sure if you'll find any, but many signs titled "Local Traditional Doctor" hides under the guise of herbal medicine, when in reality their exorcists (yes, muslims have those too) 4- in Nizwa/Bahla: try to ask your guides about the local legends and stories related to genies, witchcraft and such- There lots of chilling stories and poems written about things that 'happened' to children, ladies, strong men. The Dkhaliya region is particularlly rich with these stories.

When I was 13 or so, my parents and I visited a cave – somewhere not in oman – and it looked similar to this one, but smaller.. I had my little cat with me, I used to carry her around with me every where I go… as you know, cats aren’t afraid of the dark, but this one freaked out when we went into the cave, she started scratching and looking around, I had to take her back to the car…bizarre, or is it!! *cats can see wat we can’t, you know**

There's this cave somewhere in Rabat, Morocco (or Casablanca, or no no maybe Fas, not sure :os) but anyways, the opening of the cave if you look at it from far is shaped exactly like the African continent, sub7an Allah, it's amazing!

.. where i live we have a cave called كهف جرنان or "Kahf Jarnan".. i been there once just to see it from the outside.. coz no WAY to get in there *unless u r asking for a death wish* ..

.. u have to walk on ur knees if u decieded to get in coz the opening is so narrow!! ..

.. inside the cave there is a "golden bull" .. the story of it.. the ppl in my town used to worship this golden bull that they made from the pure gold .. so when the islam came.. some of the ppl desided to put this golden bull somewhere top secured so o one can steal it from them coz it's veru expensive!!

.. this cave has two *as old ppl says* ways if u were able to get in.. u will just end in darkness and different kind of insects!!

.. no one can go inside of this cave and if u get in there then u have to write ur will for ur relatives.. coz no way that u r coming out again.. coz this place is very secured with jin and ghosts..

.. abt 10 years ago.. a geologyst team from the UK came and decided to get into the cave to solve the mestry of it .. when thy got it for a quite long distance.. thier lights went of and the places started to get bigger and bigger.. also they felt as they r running out of Oxygn.. and they were lucky to get out.. they said nothing till they were back home in the uk lol.. then they reported: Oman is the country of amazing mazes and misteries.. we were carrying lights and suddenly they were OFF.. we heard strange sounds might be for wild animals.. the cave is very huge inside and it looks like army airport.. we are sure that some one does live inside of it.. really we cant understand it.. it's so misterious!!

..another true story of this british guy who wanted to prove his bravery.. he came to my home town and decided to get inside.. so he asked his team to tie him up and attach lights to him.. but after 3 hours he was out sayng: as far as i go inside, i feel im losing my senses and every things looks doubles infront of him.. i decided to go further.. but i started to hear strange voices so i started screaming askin for help.. but all what i can remember that i see walls gets bigger and smaller in the same time.. i really dont know whats going 9inside there.. but i have no intention to back there again.. im so lucky to be with my family again!!

.. also, the government decided to bring a special team to investigate this cave.. but it went back as it came.. ZERO!!

Majlis Al-Jinn is pretty much the most amazing name for a place Ive ever heard. I wouldnt mind though: chill out with some jinn, share some coffee and shisha, and discover about their culture and heritage :D :6:

Well, unfortunately I haven't been to any of these Interesting Caves in Oman, but Inshaala I will one day.
Here in Tx though, I have been to couple of them and interesting ones as well, but not as big as the ones in Oman.

The one I like most here is 'Natural Bridge Caverns' which has full of strange shapes and many columns of stalagmites & stalactites inside.

If you are in Oman.. For Jarnan Cave.. go to Izki.. once you arrive there ask to be directed to the Suq or Izki mosque.. or Jami3 Izki.. the cave just there.**

If you ever used the dual carriage way Mct-Nizwa.. when you pass Izki hospital sign.. you will be able to see the site of the cave.


..Or.. to make it easy for you.. I have 10 brothers.. and I'm sure there will be one of them available to escort you to the site :angel:

**Just do not tell the people that you want to see the cave till you actually reach the site of it.. because they'll know that you have no time and you are wasting their time as well :XD:

First of all there are no Jinns
second you have to walk a bit distance to reach there.. so if u r up for a soft adventure.. i suggest u take this challenge...
Third if u want to go down the cave first u should be fit and u have to go 3 or 4 days training.. if anyone interested PM me I will give u details of a trainer..
