Ok, you're lucky i know every piece of hardware in my computer, otherwise this could be a challenging task :D. here we go. note that this system isnt too new, ill be getting a new one when i move back to australia (in 2 years  ), also these are the prices i got at the time and they are estimates as i can't fully remember them all.
Motherboard: A7V8X-X
Cost: 35 OMR
Brand: ASUS
I chose the A7V8X-X because it had plenty of features for the time and took the price of the computer overall down a lot compared to the A7N8X-X which had dual ethernet cards, better chipset and faster FSB.
CPU: Athlon XP 2400+
Cost: 30 OMR
Brand: AMD
This was a pretty damn good CPU at the time, had a low 266 fsb which didnt utilise the full mb's potential but whatever...was ncie and cheap for a cpu.
GPU: GeForce 4 MX-440 SE 128MB
Cost: 25 OMR
Brand: GeForce
Although this card is normally bad, the SE version comes with 128mb of memory. It does well on most games but as the new ones like D3 and HL2 come out it struggles a bit (plays HL2 suprisingly well). for an uppgrade i plan on getting dual 6600 GT's in PCX.
RAM: 512MB Corsair 2600 DDR
Cost: 30 OMR
Brand: Corsair
At the time, this is all i needed but for hibernate to work over and over again i really needed a gig, and a gig of ram really does help when your loading games like BF1942, HL2 and Far Cry, levels take forever to load.
Hard Drive 1: 80GB 8MB Cache
Cost: 25 OMR
Brand: Seagate
This hard drive rules, the 8mb cache really makes it a speed machine. on a gigabit network i was getting 35mb+ off another guy, wow! currently it does not have a RAID configuration but i have been meaning to change it to level 5 for some time....
Hard Drive 2: 120GB 2MB Cache
Cost: 35 OMR
Brand: Western Digital
The only reason i bought this drive was because i was on my way to a lan and needed more storage space. i would have got one with an 8mb cache but they didnt have one in stock....stupid mistake! its slow as hell but i store all music/long term storage files on it.
Sound Card: Sound Blaster 5.1
Cost: 20 OMR
Brand: Creative
This card is really cheap, and it makes a HUGE difference in audio quality. with my 5.1 speakers music and movies sound really good. also has a nice software interface for changing pretty much everything.
Speakers: Z-640 5.1
Cost: 30 OMR
Brand: Logitech
These speakers absolutely rule! they are really cheap for the quality they produce and i'd suggest em to anyone who is looking for awesome 5.1 sound quality.
DVD-ROM: 8x read (i think)
Cost: 8 OMR (got it from a friend :D)
Brand: LiteOn
This dvd-rom has never let me down, lite on is a really good brand.
CD Burner: 48x write 24x rewrite 48x read
Cost: 8 OMR (came bundled with dvd from same friend)
Brand: MSI
this is a hell of a burner, also never let me down. MSI is also a great brand :D.
Network Card 1 : Gigabit 10/100/1000
Cost: 10 OMR
Brand: Level One
Awesome card, only let down is that you need to install drivers from a floppy/internet for it to work. first time ive used something from level one.
Network Card 2 : 10/100
Cost: 3 OMR
Brand: some random company
just a network card...nothing special
Ok, now its configuration.
When i bought the parts for this thing i didn't try anything weird or wacky, cause i like my computers to work. i have a milennium case that came with a side window, so i shoved two LED fans in, adds a nice effect :). also put one on the side window mount and two intake fans down the front. basically, the front fans suck in air and then the cpu fan pulls it onto the cpu, circulates around a well placed ide cable and then out the rear and side fans. also some air from intake fans goes on to the GPU, (can't forget it!).
Recently i've been pretty annoyed with windows XP, after brother messed with permissions and denied me access to all of my files. i mostly fixed it but when i wanna view files i havnt for a long time i have to reset the permissions for it. The main OS is Windows XP, and the sub OS (error checking and cool stuff) is SUSE 8.1 (i think...havnt had to use it in a while).
Here is my partitioning.
10GB partition for windows and program files,
20GB partition for larger program files and games (stuff i dont wanna lose if i have to format windows)
26GB Partition for straight downloads that are unsorted
20GB Partition for Game and Application ISO's/updates/cracks etc
70GB Partition for Music
45GB Partition for main file storage - cracks/website stuff/cool stuff/tv episodes (basically all the stuff i dont wanna lose if i have to format windows)
5GB Partition for Suse linux, doesn't need much
500MB Boot partition for Suse
And thats my computer. I'll get some pics later and post em.

Choosing your pieces doesn't mean create them!

Gunther, you gonna get the FX 55 (you told me about) when you go to Australia after 2 years! Don't you think it will be out of date by then?
I have GF4 440MX (64MB), what's your 3DMark2001 results?

UnKnown, i don't like to use 3DMark 2001 because nvidia and ATI make their drivers perform for what the test looks for thus making it unfair.
Also, I will be on the market for something in the FX series. at the moment the FX-55 is equal to about 4Ghz from Intel's p4 so its the best existing processor in the world. of course according to moores law, CPU power doubles every 12 months and i will most likely get new parts when the time comes.
Wardat_il'7leej, I did choose the piece and bought them. I had to put everything together which can be annoying if you don't know where all the cables go...front USB ports are the hardest to install because of all the colours.
