Hi :)

well, I have to say that I'm musicalyy illiterate :)

I have servertal questions.

the first is: what is the difference between a melody and a tune. In Arabic both are lahin لحن but is there a difference?

Thanks :star:

If i'm not mistaken, the tune is the music itself. The melody is the way the singer sings...

the tune means nothing hehe, the melody of a song is what you remember whenever you hear it, its what makes you go - "i remember this song!". the tune is just a casual name for the melody. There is also the timbre of a song, which is the instruments actually used to make the music, there is the bass which forms a riff for the melody. and there can be sub melodies as well.

Tunes are the colors you use, the musical Instrument is the brush, and melody is the way colors mix together to draw something meaningful, and music is the final paint which you enjoy looking at / hearing.

Tunes can be sounds like beeps or alerts in your phone, while melodies are sounds that are musically composed together to create a whole

Melody
A succession of notes of varying pitch, which form a recognizable musical shape.
* The perception of pleasant arrangements of musical notes
* A succession of notes forming a distinctive sequence;

Tune
* To put into a state adapted to produce the proper sounds; to harmonize,

* To form one sound to another; to form accordant musical sounds.

I think :hehe:

Let me put it in a rough way:

Tune is:

-A melody, especially a simple and easily remembered one.
-A song.
-Correct pitch.
-The state of being properly adjusted for pitch: a piano out of tune.
-Agreement in pitch: play in tune with the piano.
-A musical tone.
-Concord or agreement; harmony: in tune with the times.

Melody is:

-A pleasing succession or arrangement of sounds.
-Musical quality: the melody of verse.
-A rhythmically organized sequence of single tones so related to one another as to make up a particular phrase or idea.
-Structure with respect to the arrangement of single notes in succession.

Music is:

-The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.
-Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.
-An aesthetically pleasing or harmonious sound or combination of sounds: the music of the wind in the pines.

Tunes are the colors you use, the musical Instrument is the brush, and melody is the way colors mix together to draw something meaningful, and music is the final paint which you enjoy looking at / hearing.
Isn't the above explanation which I have posted before easier to understand, and closer to the meaning?

Being part of a jazz group, the melody is shared between instruments, when you have the melody everything else is essentially backup to make the melody sound good. ie the harmony and the bass. i dont know what tune means but it cant be meaningful. according to the dictionary (haroundb :)), a tune is an easily remembered melody. so lets leave it at that hehe.
