View Full Version : Internet connection!!HELP!! HaYa 12-12-04, 08:03 PM My stupid interent connection !! It disconnects every 2-3 mins, every now & then !!!..its soo annoying ? what could be the problem ? is there anything i can do to improve it ? ti3gib 12-12-04, 08:08 PM if you have XP ... delete the current connection ... and make a new one ... from Network Places > Make A new Connection > Dial up > I will enter details manually > 1311 > account : pass : > tada ! jack 12-12-04, 08:17 PM You can do as ti3gib suggested, but it is more than likely a network problem/phone line. If it persist call the phone company and ask them to check your line for noise. HaYa 12-12-04, 08:29 PM No i don't have Xp , i used to have it, and then its been removed. Jack it could be what you said ,but i remeber ,we did inform the phone company , they came and checked , they said its clear :yell: . Its sooooooooooooo annoying !!! jack 12-12-04, 09:32 PM Well start with your modem ... Unplug and reset the modem ... then connection on back of computer ... then connection at wall outlet ... then connection at outside box. One of these may have some corrosion. After that call the phone company back and raise hayaaaaa :p DeSerTDesTroYeR 12-12-04, 10:04 PM Maybe a simple software to keep your connection alive, could help : connection keeper (http://www.gammadyne.com/conkeep.htm) Check it out. CrazyReD 13-12-04, 12:22 AM probably omantel being nice as usual Blessed 13-12-04, 03:28 AM Is it possible that your connection it is set to disconnect when it's idle for 2-3 minutes? Can you manage to get to the original file that connects you to the internet? In XP it's under Network Connections from the Control Panel but I'm not sure about other operating systems. Anyway, if you manage to find that (probably something that says "Omantel"), right-click, choose the Options tab, then check for the time set in front of "Idle time before hanging up" (again that's all according to XP, so please look for something similar on your own operating system.) NiGhTFaCe 14-12-04, 04:06 PM It might be problem with the modem speed which can be effected after some time. You do this, Go to the Tools in the Internet Explorer, then Internet Options. On the tab you will see Connections, click on it, then click on Settings, then Properties at the bottom. In the connection properties, you will see Configure, click on it, & change the maximum speed to 57600 in case if you are using the 56K Dialup connection. You can try changing the same option through the Control Panel by checking the Phone & Modem Options. Gunther 04-01-05, 07:30 PM This problem is nothing more or less than omantel's cabling. ADSL has just been released to the public, maybe you should invest in some :). i guarantee it will be better, coming from australia where there is 10mbit cable readily available, 56k and omantel make it difficult adjusting :P. HaYa 04-01-05, 07:53 PM I still can't figure out whats the problem .Sometimes it behaves and sometimes it turns to One silly stupid *****!! ADSL ? elaborate pls e7im ?.. Gunther 04-01-05, 08:09 PM adsl stands for asynchronous digital subscribers line. it uses the rest of the phone line that the phone doesnt. phone doesnt even use 1% of the phone line. more details can be found here - http://www.omantel.net.om/services/residential/internet/adsl.asp NiGhTFaCe 04-01-05, 09:16 PM HaYa, we already started thread talking about this service, check it at PowerNet - The new ADSL by OmanTel (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27670) Haroundb 04-01-05, 09:48 PM What is your windows Haya? Haroundb 04-01-05, 10:22 PM Most probably this problem is due to the modem settings where your system by default disconnects after 2-3 minutes of no bytes being received or sent (idle browsing). You have to find this option in your dial-up connection settings. Depending on your windows version I will be able to guide you. There is a very good test to see if your modem is having a bigger problem or just simply what I have mentioned above. The following is a link to our sabla’s active users page. This page will refresh approx every 60 seconds. This will keep your connection from being automatically disconnected, if the automatic disconnect feature is the problem. (you must not close this page, or navigate to another location till you finish the test) just wait for 5 minutes and see. Here is the link to the page I mentioned: http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/online.php? Just find out what is your windows version and try what I have told you above and let me know what is the result. Gunther 07-01-05, 07:42 AM I would assume everyone here is using Windows XP...otherwise your computer would not be working (viruses). If you don;t have windows XP (remember the spash screen every time your computer starts up?) then i would STRONGLY recommend you get it, because windows 98,98, ME and 2000 are bad...well windows 2k is ok...If you are using linux then you should know what your OS is :P. If you buy a computer these days it is shipped with windows XP. to go to dialup options: My Computer>>My Network Places>>Right click on your internet connection>>Properties When you are there, have a look around the tabs for one that says something like "time before auto disconnection", make sure it says don't disconnect after idle. Then keep looking around for a modem speed box. Make sure the modem speed is on something like 56000bps (56kbps / 8 ~ 5k/s) or else the modem will try and g faster or slower and not work. If that doesnt work, when your modem disonnects from the internet, post the error message you get here and i can do further diagnosis... |
