Scorpio27 14-11-04, 09:01 PM Couple planned to 'sacrifice' children (http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/11/13/children.sacrifice.ap/index.html)
Nicole Mancini, 29, and John Thurber, 35, were arrested at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday after workers said they heard the woman say she wanted to sacrifice the boys.
"We could tell this woman was not right," said church secretary Donna Landolfi. "She said, 'Let's go make the sacrifice."'
Mancini and Thurber were in jail Saturday on more than $25,000 bail. They were arraigned Friday on three counts each of misdemeanor child endangerment. Thurber was also charged with marijuana possession.
The children, ages 9, 7 and 2, were not harmed and were placed in state custody. Police said Thurber is the father of the youngest boy.
Police said Mancini told them that Jesus sacrificed himself for her, so she was going to sacrifice the boys to free her soul.
"Eighteen years I've been doing this and I've never come across anything like it," police Lt. Paul Callaghan said.

Dear CR you are right, but, you know I criticize the government policy and the fanatic part not the majority the good citizens brother.;)
In Bangladesh 200 women are murdered each year by having sulphuric acid thrown on them, and dowry is one of the main causes. The BNWLA (Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association) mentioned in its report that 203 women were killed (some of them were burnt with fire or acid, some of them were cut into pieces with sharp knives) and 34 tortured for dowry by their husbands and in-laws in the year 2000. Actual data is hard to get because most of the cases of women’s death are not made public for many reasons. Some of the murders are disguised by the husbands and in-laws as suicides and the dead bodies of murdered women are instantly buried. UNICEF described in its 21 studies of violence against women in South Asia that over 70% of wives in Bangladesh reported that their husbands physically abused them. Nearly 50% of all murders of girls/women in Bangladesh can be attributed to domestic violence.
This is also crazy huh???
Are these people really muslims?
fatak
Scorpio27 23-11-04, 07:48 AM I agree Fatak, I am worried and most of the literate and modern people are too.
Poverty and easy dowry is the cause. Illiteracy and corruption is the main diseases. Now a day our government is stricter and most criminals and miscreants are being punished. You know when government takes very strict steps, Amnesty says government is suppressing democracy or going against humanity. There are political pressure and foreign interferences too.
I don't say Bangladesh is clean. But remember it's not a rich country in Wealth, education or by any other mean. I hope in few years it will be better to live and to earn your respect. I thought the advanced countries are best in all manners, but I was wrong what I wanted to tell & Often-general people dream about living in USA, Germany, UK, France etc, why? Thanks.
I believe when literacy rate will be at honorable state and the poverty will be alleviated, crime rate will come to minimal.
Scorpio27 24-11-04, 11:21 PM SAN DIEGO, California (AP) -- A mother who left her 7-year-old son locked in the trunk of a car while she partied in a bar has pleaded guilty to child abuse and false imprisonment.
Sarah Powell, 27, and her boyfriend, Jake Faria, 30, entered their pleas Monday as part of a plea bargain.
The charges carry maximum prison terms of up to six years, but the couple are likely to be sentenced to probation at a January 5 hearing with credit for time served, according to San Diego Superior Court Judge Browder Willis.
Both were jailed for several weeks after their arrests.
