You have two options to choose from, choose whichever you think is the better environment for a child to be brought up in:
1. A single parent (female or male).
2. A same sex pair (two males or two females).
You do not get to choose one female and one male. I would like to stress over this that its not about GAY people; just about the best gender nature based house for a child. The two females (or males) could be sisters (or brothers) or friends or whatever.

I totally agree with CrazyRed . yet a single father or a single mother can do better job than two males or two females . Nevertheless in some society some work if it is accepted .

Too general. I know you stressed its not about gay people, but the relationship of the parents should be known. In this case, I'd hazard a guess that the best scenario would be a single parent living in a household with their parent. I.e. mother with child and grandmother, for example. Doesnt fall into the single parent category, I put that into 'same sex' parents.
In the first casre where is the father or mother, based on that I will answer you :)
I prefer a single parent because if it is two females or two males it's just the same as the single one but two instead no difference
