I was never really for webcam until yesterday,.... when my sister (who lives abroad) surprised me by arranging an online chat at my in-laws, who have themselves a webcam too. It was really great to see her live on the other side and she was equally thrilled to see me and the rest of the family.

Anyway, all this 'bla-bla' to say that she asked me to buy my own web cam by this week-end, so that way we can do the same this Saturday and so forth.

As I have absolutely no clue about webcam, I would appreciate if anyone could tell me what is THE BEST one to buy here in Oman and the price cost? I would like a great image quality, where it doesn't freeze too much between moves.

There are some wonderful Webcams out there, among them Logetic and Creative are the best. The price for them is ranging from 25-70+. From there down you can get the un-branded names which you can find also in the range of 5-12. The main difference is the other facilities which these webcams have being portable and of high resolution, and also motion recording enabled one.

But for sure there is a fact that you have to bear in mind, all these webcams in the matter of resolution will not help you to get a high resolution to the one you are chatting with! It is because you are going to have a very slow motion whit high resolution.

“freeze too much between moves”
The motion speed and freezing problem will be because of the internet line speed, not of the type of your webcam. Yes your webcam with high resolution will give you high resolution in your pc or in taking local photo shots, but for chatting it will simply load your connection and make the image freezes.

Remember also that you had your sister only with webcam, but with you also with webcam, the speed will be a little slower.

This is what I know, for the brands and prices, I may be wrong, but for the technical part I hope I am right ;)

i have digital video/photography camera and works as web cam as well..
Panasonic .. if u r interested i can ask about the price .. its a cool camera ... the image is so clear but as Haround said freeze too much between moves” .. its so frustrating !!

My sister webcam seems really good because though the picture freezed in between moves, it was not changing colors like the one my in-laws have. One minute I was ok and the next it seemed I had jaundice :(.

I was not aware that some webcams could actually record videos too (!), but to finish what is a good resolution when it comes to such gadget?

I have a Creative PC-cam which is a digital camera with 4*MegaPixels resolution and a cam to use for live chat. Of course, the pic freezes sometimes and that's due to the connection speed. However, the resolution of this pic is pretty good..I bough this PC-CAM from Dubai more than a year ago for about 50 OR , it must be cheaper now !
