From now & upwards, you would be able to use these two services, although they are not officially been released. But, after being under test for the last few months, its available for the public now.
You can start using both the two services by activating them.

# To activate the MMS service, do the following,
Send a short message to 90013 saying:
MMSXXXX

# To activate the GPRS service, do the following,
Send a short message to 90013 saying:
WAPXXXX

* XXXX = Your mobile phone model ( In my case I would put MMS6230, & GPRS6230, since I use the Nokia 6230).

Follow the instructions from Oman Mobile servers, & you would able to use the service directly.

Myself I already tested the GPRS. But, for the MMS it was asking for some settings.
In case if you are facing problems, so just let me know :)

By the way, the service is available only for the Postpaid accounts for now, I am not sure if they would be available for the Prepaid later.

I heard about this already, can't believe they started it just after I left the country.

It is not officially released? So does that mean that people are using it for free?

To activate your mobile phone for WAP and MMS, lookup the MODEL CODE for your mobile phone in the table hereunder and send it by sms to 90013. For instance if you have the Nokia 6600 you sms WAP 6600 E to 90013

There are mobile phones that show the model name on the outside of the phone, but if your mobile does not have this and you don’t know the model name, you can find the model name under the battery inside your mobile phone.

I noticed that this service started today and I honnestly got a bit confused with all these MM, XX and WAP :os, but maybe it is not as complicated as it seems.

As they go according to mobile phones, what about if we want to change our mobile, but still use the same phone card? Some of us have more than one gsm...

NiGhTFaCe

Yeh X-press, its not complicated as it seems. Simple, put it like this way,
WAP phone model E
Thats it ;)

Good question about changing the phone! Well, i think here you need to go through the activation process again, because the operator server would configure the settings automatically.

Didn't work for me till this day. I guess my phone number has not been enabled by Oman Mobile. I can't be bothered to call 196 to complain because I am not planning to use this service anyhow. It's way overpriced.

Thanks on the info NF, I think that the MMS prices are A LITTLE bit too high, it should've been 3 times the price of an SMS not any more. The over 45 KBs price is way too high I think.

NiGhTFaCe
29-09-04, 03:45 PM
Yeh, ofcourse they would be high. Dont expect such low prices at the 1st time launching the service.
You know how the business goes on, where after some time they would reduce the tariff, & all the people would give credit to the company.

You are the most welcome ;)

I think I'm behind

Before I start this service can someone explain to me what is MMS & GPRS? and what does WAP stands for?

NiGhTFaCe
02-10-04, 03:35 PM
IceTea, MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service, where through this service you would be able to send picture, videos, songs, & other type of multimedia files.

GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service, this service allows use to use the WAP through the mobile.
The WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. Its like the WEB in your computer.

Thanks for the info. Nightface :)

Question you said above "be able to send", from where I get them in the first place so I can send them is it through the WAP service?

And how much we have to pay for the WAP service?

I have LG mobile, anyone knows the code which I should send for activation?

I checked under the battery for the model number and it's W3000 this is for LG mobile.
I sms WAP W3000 E to 90013 and got the following message from omanmobile:

The phone model is not recognized or not supported by the application!
