View Full Version : Old Fashioned Romance: Still Does It?
I've heard a couple guys complain that the old fashioned ways of romance seldom work on girls nowdays; they either take it for granted or consider it lame. Chivalry just doesn't impress her anymore, she's had too much of it or she's too liberated? Or does she just want him to try harder because those things have been overused?
Roses (or any flower), tuxedos, holding the door open, poems ... ect. Do you (girls) get impressed/touched by these gestures? Do you expect it from your man?

Oh God yes!! These simple gestures would really mean a lot to me. Just the thought that my man had thought about me and wanted to do something to make me feel special would do the job. Flowers, heart shaped chocolates, poems, yes, I guess I still adore the old fashioned way of showing your love. :)
In fact, the most romantic thing to me, is to receive roses every now and then from him, they're my favourite.

In my experience the very best time to send roses is not on valentine/birthday etc.
Send them when she least expects them

all those things are considered really sweet when u are already in love with ur spouse n she loves u back.. but personally if he is trying to "woo" her then i dont think flowers and chocolates and stuff are appropriate..
i mean if ur going steady then its definitely cute.. but if ur not official yet, then i somehow think its lame..

Yeah I get very touched and go "oh how sweet" (and start blushing too  ).
amo_l_oman 11-09-04, 02:02 AM Yup i'd get impressed if i had.
I remember once a guy promised me for Valentine my fav chocolates then nothing and discovered he had been busy with one of those committes which try to convince people not to forget to use their right to vote when elections day would come. Impressing that too...
Yessss ...

Exactly!! You can't find many men thinking in this way nowadays!
Blossom 12-09-04, 12:16 AM i don't agree with you Dr.N guys still do these things, but they do it for the wrong reasons, so girls don't trust them anymore, which leads to not trusting such gestures...
Blossom, I know, that's why I said that not many guys do it nowadays because of love.
Think of a husband and a wife, or a fiance, wouldn't it always be a sweet gesture to do little things that can make them happy?

makes u question wuts happening to this society?!
i think we all know what guys/girls want from each other, old fashioned or new, doesnt matter, goal is same!
Arabian Princess 13-09-04, 12:07 AM I think romance is romance, wether it was now, in the past or the future .. the main ingredent in romance is surprise, and all these gestures have surprise within them.
Yay i luv flowers ..luv those little gestures when u least expect them like chocolates and teddy bears ..
flowers never go out of fashion they were and still are most romantic gesture any man can think of..

They say if u get flowers in the middle of the week or for no reason then definitly he's screwing behined ur back..and its just a way to ease up his guilt trip! :D
Kazablanka 13-09-04, 01:30 AM I think flowers and opening doors and stuff are so cute.
I've heard that a long time ago when a girl liked a guy, she would cut part of her hair and tie it with a ribbon and send it to him.. omg isnt that just so cute??
That hair thing is a bit creepy Kaza :os
Kazablanka 13-09-04, 01:43 AM whyyy... its like giving a part of you to him.. I still think its soo cute..
fatamooo 13-09-04, 02:00 AM loose hair is gross loool, but i think that they used to put it in a locket or something, so i guess thats ok, just as long as it doesnt open and the hair flies out and lands in someones mouth!! eeww, im gagging!!!!
Libellula 15-09-04, 07:54 PM Roses (or any flower), tuxedos, holding the door open, poems ... ect. Do you (girls) get impressed/touched by these gestures? Do you expect it from your man?
I'd certainly think it was sweet and cute, but I don't think it'd impress me that much. Anyone can get you roses or hold the door open, there's nothing special about it. No, I wouldn't expect someone to get me roses or write poems about me, because then I'd be disappointed. Not many guys go out of their ways to do all that nowadays.
Bonita applebum 15-09-04, 10:44 PM oooooo roses n chocolates... n simple love notes are the cutest things ever... but to know that someone wrote a poem jus for me .... gives me butterflies!! its soo adorable!! but overdoing it ... can take awaaay the simplicity of the matter .. n how wonderful it feels to knwo that someone loves u - to hear it once every blue moon :) hmmmm n its nice when ur showering someone with it.. but ofcourse again u shouldnt over do it! :D u should keep it simple but sexy... make the girl want more... cause then she'll be eger to know wats next!! n thats GREAT! keep the chocolates n roses coming! :) i'll be waiting!
I think it does work very well still. I personally would rather give her a cd with our/her/my fave songs.. or a drawing of mine over a rose.. cause at least that would last.
I've heard that a long time ago when a girl liked a guy, she would cut part of her hair and tie it with a ribbon and send it to him.. omg isnt that just so cute??
hair from where exactly? :lost:
Erm, Hitman, hair from her head! :os
I've heard that, and I think it's totally weird!
Kazablanka 16-09-04, 02:25 AM How come everyone thinks its 'weird' or 'gross'.
look at it this way, back then most women grew their hair and never cut it, their hair was like so precious to them. So a woman actually cutting it and giving it away to a guy was to him show how much she loves him.
I still think its cute and I think I'm gonna grow my hair long so I can cut it and give it away to this really cute guy that works in starbucks fil shatti
Libellula 18-09-04, 12:44 AM Call me cynical, but if someone got me roses I'd immediately get all suspicious, wondering what they want in return.

As much as it might sound cute :duh: but, as far as I know. black magic requires parts of the body, such as hair and nails :tiered: And so, despite whatever.. sending body part :scary: dont really recommend :twitch:
Kazablanka 18-09-04, 09:01 AM why is everyone soo paranoid?? :S
It's not about being paranoid. It's just weird that's all!!
Why would I want to give anyone some of my hair? I know I would never want someone to give me theirs, I'd just throw it in the bin!
Libellula 20-09-04, 10:12 PM It's just not something you'd expect - for someone to go out of their way and do something nice for you.

I think this is the most accurate answer, at least majority-wise.
I think today girls prefer sms over flowers.
