Well i wanted to post this question some weeks ago when i read the news on my newspapers but not finding an english source i didn't. Now discussing with DP about Material Boy well it came back to my mind and i'll post the story just as reference for a general question. If not valid please mods feel free to delete.
Almost a month ago some iranian girls went to swim with their class and at a certain point they started having problems and needed help but the only available to save them were males, so the teachers ordered them not to go and save them cause in Islam any type of contact between males and females is forbidden and the girls died.
So my question is: til which extent we must stick to the rules? Also at risk of life or of hurting another human being who is not harming me as Muslim?
Thanks :)

Amo The rules says if there is no water and you are dying of thirst you may drink Alcohol ( Fatwa ) Similar if the Iranian Girls are drowning and there is a Jew or Seek or none believer or any man they should receive and except help since Islam wants you to live and live your life .
Basically any thing endangers your life you should permit yourself to even go out of your religion and do it.
One of the stories during prophet Mohd( S) few of his Companions got caught and they were tortured and they asked to utter bad words about Allah and His messenger and they did and felt so bad . Once there came back and met with the prophet they told him what they have said and the prophet said if you go through the same experience again you may repeat what you said as long as your faith has not changed.

Exactly like what DP said.
Amo:
Well, if the news were accurately reporting this incident then and belonging to the Sunni sector I must agree with DP that the general rule states: الضرورات تبيح المحظروات which means that necessities allows that which is forbidden. Logically a life and death situation is considered to be a necessity and as such anyone could have helped saving their lives.
However, mentioning that the girls were Iranians there is a great chance for them being Shiite, and I am not aware of how their scholars interpret verses or judge a situation. So you are better of asking a Shiite person.
DP:
I think the verse you talk about is the following :
مَنْ كَفَرَ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ إِيمَانِهِ إِلَّا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُ مُطْمَئِنٌّ بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَكِنْ مَنْ شَرَحَ بِالْكُفْرِ صَدْرًا فَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
any one who, after accepting faith in Allah, utters Unbelief,- except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in Faith - but such as open their breast to Unbelief, on them is Wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a dreadful Penalty.
The verse refers to the incident where Umar bn Yaser could not take it any longer so he spoke whatever the non-believers wanted to hear of him. As such he came to the prophet –Peace Be Upon Him- apologizing. So the prophet asked him : “ how do u find your heart?” and he said :” in peace with faith”
A more suitable citation is:
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.

I think you cant put it down to sects, but down to the idiocy of the teachers. If the intentions are pure, then there is no sin. If the intentions of the 'males' who were there to save them was to genuinely save them, then I cant see the harm in it. Its certainly less 'haram' than letting them die!

Thats what I meant AP. Personally I dont think its haram at all, but for some who may say it is, the alternative is worse.
It's common sense that if it's a life and death situation, you'd jump to help, it's nothing to do with the sect here. Like PT said, it was the teachers fault that they let them drown instead of calling out for the guys to help.
Then why do you go and see a male doc if you're a girl and you're sick? Because you need to. There are exceptions and in this case, what the teacher did is something unforgivable.

well im Shia, and i think that is sooo messed up!!! i know that in the Shi3a sect they wont let a girl drown just because the only people who can save them are men... thats an incredibly extremist act and a waste of a life!!! imagine those girls never get to graduate and live their lives because they didnt want to touch the women... im sorry im overreacting but i just cant get over how irrational that is!!!

This is general Islamic rules guys so don't relate it to sects!!
Amo the contact between a woman & man which is out of a desire this is 7aram, but if u were in a full public transportation board & a man touched u mistackenly it's not 7aram!! Also goes with necessary contact like helping.
Just know what is behind any forbiddence to get your answers guys & masure the contemporary situations with that!!
Islam is the religion of mercy!
It's like those bastards in Saudi Arabia who wouldn't let the girls out of their burning school because they weren't wearing their 3abaya. I'm glad Sabla member are more realistic!
