This topic is inspired by a book by Allan & Barbara Pease:
Apparently, people who were found to be high achievers (male or female) had higher testosterone levels than the average person. Its reported that 'not only does testosterone lead to high levels of achievement, but achievement causes more testosterone to be produced' (quoted from the book). Also, in animals, the male animals who ruled were found to have to have the highest testosterone levels.
So basically, claiming high chairs in the workfield has always been an outlet for testosterone. But now we have women coming into the workplace and replacing men in many industries, so we lack ways to channel the male testosterone.
The book says: "There is a growing focus on muscular male physique in popular culture, a boom in crass men's magazines and an explosion in violent computer games. This is known as cultural displacement and this happens when the power of testosterone is ignored or attacked, so it re-emerges in cruder, less social forms."
I, guiltily, have been one of those to attack men for the way they are only to realise that this is their nature, whether women like it or not men NEED this as not only an outlet but to give them a feeling of superiority. And that's not bad... its just their nature.
So, what do you think about this so called 'cultural displacement' and what are some suggestions you might have to help the situation?
