I thought it was about time to open up a thread about Anime series. I am sure that we have some Anime fans in Sabla and I am sure some of them collect then (either by downloading, buying or exchanging).

Some of you might have memories of Anime series you used to watch in the past but not sure about the title, so I think it would be a good idea to have a thread where everyone can share everything and anything about anime.

I'd recomend the following Anime:
- Naruto (real cool series any anime fan MUST watch it)
- Full Metal Alchemist ( I recently started watching this anime and i'm hooked can't wait for the next release)
- Yugioh! This is a long series more than 200 eps till now (although nothing compared to DBZ) good anime but some eps tend to become repetitive
- Rourni Kenshin (Real nice Anime not many eps either)
- Trigun (action packed and funny)
- Cow Boy Beepob ( one of the BEST anime)

those are all that come to my mind now i'll post some as soon as i remember

What would u recommend to someone who's never watched anime. Where do you start? Some of these series are now hundreds of episodes long.

Muscati: there are quite a few of anime series with lots of eposides but most of them are either 13 or 26.

Dragon Ball Z, well that is a group of many of a number of parts of that series

there is DB then DBZ then DB GT ..and its one of the biggest series out there.

Cowboy Bebop: another very cool series!

Muscati, you need to watch them to knowww.. DBZ is getting kinda old and less interesting but back when it came out first time it was amazing :D

Bebop: has it all ... action, drama, comedy you name it. And the anime quality is quite good.

or through mIRC (thats what i do)

and true some are 100+ but it's never to late to start and they are really fun to watch (yest i was up till 4am watchin full metal) hehe

well first you need to have mIRC
then you need to know what channel to go to and what network that channel is in
the best is irc.rizon.net
and there are diff channels
for naruto the best is #anbu-dom for kenshin try #vision-anime
for yugioh go to #yugioh! for inuyasha (which is close to ending) go to #anime-kraze

for full metal you should use the server efnet and go to #FMA
ofcourse each channel has many diff anime's but those are the ones i go to

as for how to download
some channels will allow you to use the find command to use it simply type
@Find anime name (e.g Find naruto)
and then u'll get pm's telling you ur search result and a trigger
type that trigger in the channel and u'll open a dcc window in there u use simple dos comannds
like dir to get the directory, cd directory name to access the directory and most importantly get file name.extension

another way is, there's something called xdcc to use those the triggers are usually
/ctcp bot_name xdcc send#(pack number)
to search for pack the best web site is www.packetnews.com

ofcrouse u have to wait in que to get the files

for FMA
just go to that channel and type /ctcp ArtOfCart FmA PlZ

For Muscati and anyone else who wants to explore in the anime world I would recommend two animes:

1- Rurouni Kenshin - Reminiscence

Its the first OVA for Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X in the states).
OVAs by the way are shows that are released directly to video/DVD without first being shown in theaters or on tv.

Anyways, the ova consists of four episodes, togeather called ''Reminiscence''. The first two episodes are called ''Trust'' and the other two are called ''Betrayal'', The whole OVA is also called ''Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal''.

The story takes place in Japan dureing the Meiji era. A little boy named Shinta witnesses the murdering of the woman that takes care of him by some robbers, he is saved by a swardsman who rename him kenshin and teaches him the art of the blade. The characters develop throughout the movie, and the little boy is no longer inoccent. He turn into the most feared hitokeri battosai, an assasin with no feelings.

It takes place before the tv series, the animations and the drawing style is totally different from the tv show, more mature I think, it tells you how kenshin got the X shaped scare on his cheek.
It also gives you ALOT of info about japan during that era, has a rich historical backdrop I must say.

Its a sad story that has it all, drama, romance, action.. with lots of feelings and emotions going on.
Its my ALL TIME favourite OVA, a must see for anyone even with the slightest interest in anime art.

Startled by the container, a swarm of fireflies rise from the grass, and the small spririt of the boy and his sister appear among the insects, and their story is told.

yeah the 1st ova is nice but don't watch the 2nd ova until u've seen the the series i didn't like tha drawing in the 2nd ova

I just started watching the series it's about Alchemy and how to gain something you need to sacrfice something of equal value(check my signature) What basically happens is that there are two brother's who lose thier mom and they try to bring her back to know what happens just follow the series;)

Forget about the rest, choose Stable/installer, and then when you get to the other page with the countries and all dont panic :p, it has to do with the nearest server to your location so you get a faster download but its no big deal. Download from Keihanna, Japan if you are located in Asia, if not, you can download from any other server, doesnt matter.. just click on where it says ''1678 kb'' and the download should start.

No SD, actually its called "Miracle Giants Dome-Kun", リトル巨人くん in japanese. The little kid's name is Domu. This anime is kinda old, was first broadcasted in 1989, thats 15 years ago!, I wonder how you remembered it :p.

Ecchi and hentai are not the same, though they're quite close. Ecchi is more like an R rated series, whereas hentai would be more like an x. Anyway, one of my favourites is Neon Genesis Evangelion (Shinseiki Evangelion). You can see in my sig a quote from it. My avatar also came from anime--Urd from Oh! My Goddess! (Ah! Megamisama! in Japanese) Another favourite of mine is Vision of Escaflowne (Tenkuu No Escaflowne). I wonder if you guys have seen these 3 anime? Amazing series, especially Evangelion.

Cool... some more series added so far... I would agree with DBS, HellSing is really cool starts off quite slow but progresses and makes it one of the series you will always remember.

I don't know--End of Evangelion isn't really for me, I guess. Hideaki Anno himself preferred the TV ending over the movie, since he made it clear that the movie is his revenge on fans who didn't exactly like the TV ending.

Escaflowne is really nice. Anyone who likes his love story mixed in with mecha anime should definitely get this. It's not mecha per se, but neither is it wholly a love story either, like Oh! My Goddess!

And if you like such anime as Oh! My Goddess!, you should definitely pick up other shoujo anime like Kimagure Orange Road and Maison Ikkoku. Haven't seen both (except for KOR: Summer's Beginning, which ties up the whole KOR series), but I've heard so much good feedback on both of them that I might pick them up. Hopefully.

Naruto is brilliant, definitely, but my personal fav. is Trigun. Instant classic. Cowboy Bebop is good, as is Kenshin. try watching Gungrave, from the makers of Trigun. I started, seems good so far. Theres a lot of good anime out there, inclduing the classics, like Robotech, etc. And who can forget Captain Majid? ;). Yeah, anime is a wonderful world, but difficult to get hold of in Oman. Theres a shop, I forget the name, downstairs in Al-Khamis plaza which is quickly becoming famous for its anime. Go there, and get some titles.

But lets not forget theres a lot of totally crap anime also.

PT, I checked the shop you mentioned and its not all that.. they only have the most famous Anime and they don't have old ones like Goldenfish Warnning...

There is another shop in Wadi Center but didn't check it out yet and you can order from them....

I think the shop in wadi centre has been closed. And the one in Khamis, am not sure but I feel their anime is quite expensive. There is a small section in one of the shops in SABCO downstairs. I guess cause they order little volumes, the prices are high. Too bad. :(

Quite an interesting series, the main characters abilities keep improving through out the series, so they dont stick with the same thing all the time. Again another catching anime, which could keep you hooked. And its quite funny as well :D

well the series are based on the Movie Samurai 7 where a village recruits samurai to defend them against bandits i'll post some pictures later inshalla

Samurai 7 is one cool series. A mixture of fantasy, adventure and mecha with a little sci-fi in it. I absolutely loved it from the very first episode. The animation, artwork, characters are all so well done and backed up with an excellent storyline and theme. Though unfortunately it got licensed a while back and I dont think Anime-Kraze (the group that releases the show - they are amazing!) will be working on any new episode of S7!

Cant download anime or music or anything cause of stupid university enforcing rules. Cant use bittorrent, DC, Kazaa or anything. Anyone recommend a way around this?

PT, try the passive mode in DC++, if its only the firewall that is blocking you from connecting it should work. Same goes for BR.

I will try that but I am not sure where to get it the DC++ from and how to work on it.. and not sure if I can install it at work but will try that.. just let me know where to get it from ...

They have Saint Seiya on Amazon.co.uk?! I never knew about this. I downloaded the Saint Seiya 'movies' and not the series by the way, but I really would love to see the series as well. BTW, the ones on Amazon.co.uk are all from Region 1, so they might not be compatible with your what you play your DVDs on.

I downloaded the two Saint Seiya movies using torrents. I can actually burn them to CDs and give them to you if you want to.

The first one is a stand alone side story movie, while the second one is the conclusion of the Hades series.

CrazyRed, the other FF series is a very old one. It is based on FF4 unlike Unlimited which is not related to any of the games. I watched part 1 of Legend of the Crystals, and it is not really that bad.

Very weird, very original. In this one there is no in between, you'll either love it or just hate it! Although I didnt finish watching this series, I absolutely loved the animation and the punky theme in furi kuri. The story is a little bit confusing and many people I know didnt like it, be warned.

Prepare yourself to meet the craziest characters in the anime world ^^

Im not sure but its about 70 episodes. You will find episodes up to 27 subbed by 'Soldats' and 'Anime-Kraze'.

IMO, Soldats' version is much better than A-Kraze's in terms of picture quality, font used in subtitles, karaoke ^^, translation accuracy... etc

Warning: This series can get VERY addictive!
