View Full Version : Children between 10-13 smoking!!!!!
when i came back to oman for my holiday from malaysia i found lots of kids who are about 10 to 13 smoking, i mean WHY do those shopkeepers sell the cigarettes to those kids or is it that the kids tell the shopkeeper that thier father asked them to go and buy the pack for him..selling cigarettes should be strictly sold only to 18+...i would :shoot: my young brother if i cought him one day smoking..and im not only concerned about my younger brother but also the young kids... the question is asked what do you all think are the main ressons for that?

I know, its so sad. also, seeing guys in there teens smoking is also sad.
I guess the main reason they do it is cuz they see other older guys doing it and "the older are the cooler" to them. So i guess they try it once and then cant stop or something.
I know the shopkeeper shouldnt be selling cigs to kids, but do you think they care? they are making money out of it. I seriously think its the parents responsibilty to watch their children. make sure what they are doing, who they are hanging out with. And teaching the kid what is right and what is wrong.

My son did that at 12. Caught him smoking in town. So, I picked him up, bought him a pack of cigarettes and 2 cigars. Made him smoke every one of them. Made him sick. especially when he got to the cigars.
To this day, he doesn't smoke, the smell of cigarette smoke nauseates him, and he tells his brothers and sister never to smoke.
He did it because he thought people would think he was older. And thought it made him look tough.

I think Kazablanka, summed it up quite well...
There has to be more awareness, from the parents and those who sell the product.

Oman needs under-cover cops; those that get on the shop keeper's @$$ as soon as he sells something to kids.

They dont even ask them why they r buying the smokes and for who ..
My dad always used to let me go buy ciggy's for him when I was younger if I was going to the store and they just sell it to anyone!!!
Dont Blame the shopkeepers only...
when you see a Young Boy smokin'... act the same time.. i mean if the kid is smokin in front of you a 10 years boy.. you should threat the hell out of him...
or find out whos kid he is .. and just tell their parents bout him smokin'... shopKeepers have owners.. owners who ask bout MONEY ONLY... so he have to sell what ever he got every month...
Honestly i never told anyone to stop smokin cause i used to smoke... but now i stopped and they should 2... now its the time for me to say anythin bout smokin' to those kids...
the kids need some one with Brains to let them stop.. you cant simply just let the shopkeepers not sell cigg to kids.. they will find a way to get.. but if you convince the kids that its a bad habbit the kid himself wont buy it or try too...
Peace..

Sad that it happens everywhere, not just in Oman. Teens usually do such things to make them feel like they belong or are adults. I guess most of us here have gone through the same phase as well.
I think that they usually smoke because they think it's cool and maybe because a group of guys at their school do it and they want to be like them or be accepted by them. There really should be a law to not allow shopkeepers to sell cigarrettes to under 18 year olds. But these kids should really now the harm they are doing to their bodies. May be it would be helpful if the harm of smoking is taught more widely at schools in Oman. All they are doing is smoking fire into their lungs which is totally gross and scary! :barf:

I like the way scot handled it If I see my bro smoking i won't :shoot: i'll talk to him and try to make him understand some kids who get caught and then are beaten by parents or bro's just keep on doing it to defy thier parents there shold be cops undercover to monitor and parents should try to get more involved with thier kids and try to explain stuff not just beat them
it happens evry where.....not only in Oman...and i dont think so that the shopekeeper will care to ask..he'll just sell just for the sake of the money...and i think the main reason is having bad friends or being in a sick group..and as we all know that the teenage mind is crazy what ever they see they COPY! :6:

It doesn't happen everywhere. I am 22 years old right now and gas stations ask for my photo id when I walk in to purchase cigarettes. Its a law here and people who break it will go to jail ... as simple as that.
Its time developing countries grew a little more strict, when it comes to tobacco products and such ...
Oman is too flexible when it comes to law breaking, heck look at the way people drive here :duh:
They need firm laws, and need to implement them! A store should get shut down by the government if its caught selling cigarettes to any underage kid.
That aside, people need to teach their kids how to deal with peer pressure because that's how it all starts. Even drinking, a guy sits at a table with a bunch of other dudes who are smoking and they sit and make fun of him of being a wuss cause he won't drink. It takes a strong personality and concrete beliefs for one to be able to say NO.

Kids are doing drugs at the moment. They sell 'em in shops, secretly. :scary:
hi
as some of u said that this issue is starting to be in the out in oman now, evenn though probably it was there before but secrelty........
this issue needs to be delt sonner than later......and need to alram the governmnet with it.......to take the right steps to control it before it is late, the same as the other issues..........
i was more shocked wheni came to the UK and one night i was waiting for a bus by the bus stop at 11pm and while i was waiting i saw 2 boys came to wait as well, and i could tell that one of them was 6 years and the other was 8 years old, still wearing their school unifirm, and one was holding a cig. and the other was holding the beer can.......and i was like this
i thought of telling them off. but i said what is the point,,,,because if i tried to say any thing to them they would accuse me of any thing, and in Uk the Laws do protect the kids words.....so i said i wont say a word...
I would blam the parents......
Cause first of all they shouldnt have been out at that late time and plus not alone........plus smoking and drinking........thats even worse.....
======
Well Scoti. u give ur son a goood leasson.....i wish if i could see more of u in the city that i am in.....
see more of the parents who care about their kids and their health and security.......
