I'd like insha' Allah to buy a laptop this summer.

IU'm thinking of this laptop:

http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/fr3000.htm

yet I these concerns:

1- will AMD Athlon get hot easily?
2- It's not Centrino, so it's heavier than centrino laptops
2- It's not Centrino, the battery life is much shorter (with Centrino it can go up to 6 hours)

Has anyone tried it or has one?
what do u think of it?
I like other specs especially the video card and the nice red color.

what do think
thanks :)

I saw this one in Muscat last month. It's way too overpriced. You're paying for the Ferrari name. I'm surprised Ferrari allowed their name to be used for a computer as badly configured as this one.

Totally agree with Muscati here... its very overpriced.

-----------------

About the specifications... They are quite alright.

The Cpu, should be supported with a compatible heat sink and a cooler fan. But there is a chance it can heat up.

--------------

Centrino, are specific Cpu's for laptops, so they for sure excel in a couple of different aspects. Such as the ones you mentioned.

Sorry I based my opinion on the Ferrari laptop Loay was selling at Comex last month, I didn't click on the link here to see the config here. This one's not bad, but the one Loay was selling was really lagging in RAM and HD size.

My wife and I both have Centrino laptops (IBM and Toshiba) and they're amazing. The battery life's incredible. The power and speed are excellent even on the 1.3 Centrino. We bought the IBM in August for 730 rials and I paid GBP 1200 for the Toshiba here in Glasgow in October (the price includes Office XP, 3 year warranty and insurance).

If I were buying a Centrino today I would not pay more than 650 rials for a top config laptop with not less than 1.4 Centrino, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB HD, 64MB graphic RAM. If you're going to be carrying your laptop to school with you often then weight is very very important. My Toshiba is 3.3 Kg and it breaks my back. My wife's IBM is around 2Kg and it's heaven to use. I should have gone for a 14.1 inch screen and saved on the weight.

I like the look of it .. Very elegant. but the specifications arent all that compared to the new laptops that are around now.

Acer is not bad actually. some people might have bad experiences with a computer.. doesnt mean the brand itself is bad.

Thanks All :)
I appreciate ur input.

Acutally I got dazzled by its look.
I wonder when we are going to have "asseblemalble" laptops where u can choose the pieces and the out case. Why aren't any there?

Thanks again :color:

I think u're right. but I think what e- creativity meant is different looks for the covers of the laptop and all , just like u get with desktops , where u can find black , silver and other cool and weird looking covers.

Yes, what I meant is that you get the case you want, the motherboard, CPU, the rams and everthing as u please. This will make the prices down.

Laptops are pricy - I think- because of ther LCDs and because they are monopolized.

I thought the Acer-Ferrari was upgraded on October 8th to the new AMD 64 3400+. I dont know the performance of this laptop, but I love anything with the AMD mark, especially if its the 64 bit processor... It has a lower power consumbtion, does not heat like the new P4 does and its so much faster for a cheaper price. What else are you looking for?

http://www.computershopper.co.uk/

Within the grey and 'Ferrari red' chassis there is also a 15in TFT display, an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 for graphics (with 128MB dedicated video RAM), 512MB of RAM (scaleable to 2048MB) and an 80GB hard drive. A slot-loading DVD-Super Multi drive (a reader/burner) is also standard. Other elements of the notebook's spec include 4 USB 2.0 ports, an S-Video out port, a FireWire IEEE 1394 interface and a 4-in-1 memory card reader.

I don't like acer at all since many people has experienced some bugs within its product. I trust dell in its product and it has less complaint from customers than acer. Besides, I never tried Athlon but the Ferrari 3000 looks really great but I don't think people would go to the looking rather than its specifications.

If I were you. I would take all of the P4 processors and throw them in the nearest wadi after passing my car tyres over them few times.

P4 is crab... You can fry an egg on its processor. It automatically reduces the speed of the processor when over heating (3400 processor running at the speed of 2800). Hyper threading technology is a technology that is not used. Expensive. Slower than AMD (normal user and frequent gamer). Running at 32bit rather than 64bit.

The boxed Intel Pentium 4 processor Extreme Edition 3.46 GHz is priced at $999
Back in October - AMD rolls out its flagship chips for the Christmas market - AMD released its own 'ultimate processor' aimed at hard-core gamers, the Athlon 64 FX-55. This 64-bit chip is priced at $827.

No, I just got carried away, but honestly I think P4 doesnt have a chance compared to my beloved AMD 64bit :)
