Hi,

1- Kazaa and DC ++ and others peer-to-peer programs
Are they safe?

2- since it's about sharing, won't others be ablt to look at all your files and download them???

3- how to protect your privacy?

4- if some one is offering some files, if he/she goes offline, they are no more available right?

5- what about viruses and other dangers (hacking, spys?)?

Thanks :)

1- Kazaa and DC ++ and others peer-to-peer programs
Are they safe?

Not completely safe. Simply from the files you download. It can have a trojan attached to it, and that will make your PC.. with a door wide open for unwanted intruders.

2- since it's about sharing, won't others be ablt to look at all your files and download them???

yes, they will. But that will be the files which are located in the sharing folder. But again, that means the sharing port is always open.

3- how to protect your privacy?

Use a good firewall. Set it up properly, so it will only allow exactly what you want it to let in and out. Thats one of the main things to do.

4- if some one is offering some files, if he/she goes offline, they are no more available right?

well, there might be someone else with the same file online, you will just need to retry your search on that file. And someone having it will come up.

5- what about viruses and other dangers (hacking, spys?)?

Its all possible, as from the answer of the 1st question, if a trojan gets in then its a hacking chance. a virus, well if you download a virus, while its named something else.

Spying, well if someone is listening to your PC traffic they can already know what you doing. So through such programs it just increases the chances of more people might target you.

I think DD covered it all pretty well there. Anyways.. if u ever use a peer to peer program , i wouldnt advise u to share anything nor download programs. the safest is to just download music if u want cause those barely have any trojans or viruses attached to them.

Kazaa and DC ++ and others. Are they safe? I don't know about DC++ ... I doubt it because of the nature having to let others have access to your system.

Kazaa ... bottom line is NO ... it is not safe if you have sensitive files/info that you don't want others to mess with.

The best thing is to keep your virus definitions updated at all time and to keep your firewall enabled and set correctly.

i use DC++ and its no doubt one of the best p2p softwares...

our server has its own HUB and we can download the latest movies with a speed of approx. 10MB/SEC...plus many other multimedia stuff and softwares!!

in my case, its totally safe!!

E-creativity:

my server's name is "ETHERNET" and the address of the hub on DC++ is---> 10.20.0.1:8888

but its of no use to u coz only the members of the server can enter it...

hmm, so its a LAN (local) hub/server you were refering to. But maybe it has an external IP address as well. Did you ask around?
