Though I do not intend to disclose the name of that School in Oman, I heard a story few days ago which surprised me if indeed true. The purpose of this thread is to find out how far this problem is spreading here.

My husband's niece, who is already 14, told me that there is a case going on against her school and that I shouldn't be surprised if it closes its doors by next year!?

When I asked her what happened? She replied that some young boys are selling 'weeds' to their teachers in exchange of good grades!!! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-003.gif I couldn't believe my ears!!

Being highly concerned, when I asked her several questions, I found out that the boys who are selling this weeds are not only big teenagers, but also small kids! http://www.1-2-3-gaestebuch.de/smilies/060.gif She told me that weed was very popular at school and even some kind of tablet, but she didn't know the name of it. Though some of the teachers are getting this weed directly from the students, she doesn't know if they were caught, or if some kids report the case to their parents.

Now as I am totally in the dark when it comes to drugs and I often hear stories related to this in schools, I want to know how serious is this problem among teenagers in Oman and most particularly in private schools?

Back when I was in school and at breaks we'd c guys smoking up right infront of everyone and I know **** well that those werent cigarette's!!
I used to think of weed like WOW .. u know when u hear the word DRUG .. and I still do , even though its became so common amonsts many kids and teenagers .. its like they r smoking up cigarrette's or as normal as drinking coke .. its not like its a secret some one's trying to keep .. its something they do infront oof many others and in public too and I believe its become a serious matter and that many guys have been actually caught by the [oloce or are still suspected as being dealers!!

Well I am very concerned Homeless and it is not reasurring to hear that some boys are smoking right in front of everyone during break, because my husband's niece told me that some teachers do that too!!!

I told her it is impossible and that she must have made a mistake, it must be a cigarette. Could it be possible that the school would let the teachers or the students do that publically (even if it is in a corner of the school yard) and not do anything to stop it?

My concern is that (my sweet little) 11 yrs old son has several friends within that school and when I talked to him about this issue, he confessed that one of his friends older brother do take drugs...and I went like: http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-013.gif. I am now very worried to send him to his house...

XP,

Problems at the school are one thing. But with regard to your son in general, may I offer a little advice which might intially seem unwelcome?

When your son hears about drugs, he will of course be interested. He will want to know what they're like, what the effects are, especially if others say it's fun.

You need to get educated, and make sure he knows that you understand his curiosity and the appeal of drugs. If you don't, or respond to the very idea with "it's wrong, drugs are evil, they will kill you, stay away", he will not appreciate your advice. Because by the time he's interested, he will know other people (maybe does even now) who use them and are not apparently either evil or in imminent danger of dying. At worst, he will think you're lying to him. At best, he will think you're stupid.

I suggest being honest. A 'toke' on some hashish is not going to kill anyone. But it's not that good for you either in the long term. And it's illegal. And it makes a lot of people feel nauseous and paranoid. And you don't know what you're getting - because drugs are illegal, they're therefore sold by criminals, who will mix them up with any old cheap rubbish to increase the amount they have to sell. So people usuallyget ripped off too.

It's difficult to resist just saying "stay away", but remember when you were a kid, how little effect that had on you? "Don't go in there, whatever you do" = (in kid's ear) "there's something really cool in there we don't want you to know about". It's the same subliminal message with drugs: The only way you will keep your kid away from interest in these things is to be honest with him about what different types of drugs there are, where they come from, what they're used for, why people take them, and the health plusses and minuses. And if he does admit to you one day down the line that he's tried a puff of dope from his friend, don't blow your lid. Just remind him it's illegal and he could stay away from people who deal the stuff, and that it's not the same for all drugs - be careful to know exactly what anyone is offering him.

hmmm "afdhal" is pretty popullar between the guys in school... The school sent letters to every guys parent to inform them but you'd still see guys spitting every where, even after they've got pathetic detentions and were threatened to be expelled .... :barf: yuck!
