I think NTL offers cheap, about 15£ a month. not sure. Then theres BT and wanadoo. Theres also blue yonder. Try checking on the internet about their rates. Would be good to check them out before you do anything. sophis^catrina 29-04-04, 02:06 PM I HATE NTL. Like everyone else, they draw you in by their great offers. When it comes to customer service, they SUCK. They gave me so much trouble this year and I despise them for it. Unless you want to drive yourself nuts when you have a problem, then go for ntl. grasshopper 29-04-04, 03:08 PM Depends if you are looking for broadband or not. If its broadband you are looking for i can recomend Eclipse www.eclipse.co.uk whilst they are not the cheapest. £50 set up and £20 p/m they are certainly one of the best and most reliable. since being connected to them i have not lost connection or had any download/upload problems atall. Other offers from the likes of Tiscali and BT may seem tempting but you will not recieve the same quality of service. Hope this helps Diva 29-04-04, 03:11 PM I had no problems at all with NTL. I used to pay about £50/month for broadband internet, cable TV and a phone line. At that time this was cheaper than BT but all these companies are always coming up with offers so it's worth checking them out first. Muscati 29-04-04, 03:21 PM NTL doesn't provide service to my part of town so I went for BT broadband. I pay around £28 a month for a 512 kb/s line and since I signed up for a year they threw in a free ADSL modem. I've been using it since October without a hitch. Never needed to call customer service for anything thus far. I thought about going for Tiscali first but I can't trust a company that also offers 256K lines and calls it Broadband. If I had the choice of going for NTL then I might have gone for the 1 megabit line, BT only started to offer that speed a month ago but I can't upgrade to it unless I sign up for another year which isn't fair. Blossom 29-04-04, 03:48 PM thanks guys thats really helps..i've checked NTL and BT and i am more keen to BT, but i will have a look at the other ones. and yes i am looking for broadband with network connection, cause its gonna be shared among me and flat mates. sophis^catrina 29-04-04, 06:20 PM Originally posted by Diva I had no problems at all with NTL. Did u call them up for customer service when u wanted to change something? :eyes: Those horrible ntl people kept overcharging me the whole time, it was so ridiculous, I would tell them abt it, but they wouldn't do anything abt it. In the end, coz I didn't pay, then this other department finally realised and agreed to give me free line rental for the next two months and to give me credit too for the trouble they caused. Thank God that at least they gave me compensation, but they gave me so much trouble before that. Blossom 24-09-04, 02:02 AM i just signed in with ntl and its the worst thing i did in my life, the server can not recognize the modem......and their phone line service is crap, i wait for ages to talk to someone........aghhhhhhhhhh sophis^catrina 24-09-04, 03:13 AM ^^^ Tell me abt it. I had to endure the torture of being with them last year. Does anyone know any company that provides broadband for a 9 month contract, rather than the usual 12 months? Vamp 24-09-04, 03:17 PM Wish I had seen this thread earlier, I would've told you to stay away from NTL, Tiscali, Virgin and the likes. Im currently with NDO (http://ndo.com) and I must say their service is excellent! I pay £25 a month for an uncapped 512k connection and I am not tied to a 12 months contract which is really cool coz I move alot. You wont be asked to pay any setup or activation fee if you join, but if you cancel within 12 months you will have to pay a BT connection fee of about £58. They also offer a package with 10GB a week limit for £15.99 for the first 5 months and then £21.99 afterwords which is a good deal (an activation and a setup fee is payable of about £65 or something). The tech.support number is at national rate and the guys there are very friendly and knowledgeable. You can check their open forums at ndousers.com. Other ISPs worth checking are: Plusnet, PIPEX, Eclipse, Vispa, Zen and Nildram. Catrina, NDO, Pipex and Freedom2surf (not sure) plus a few others offer monthly contracts. Blue_Chi 25-09-04, 02:05 AM I signed up for NTL, their contract is only for nine months unlike other ISPs that usually have a 12 months contract. I checked the prices of Wanadoo and they seemed more expensive. The NTL guys came all the way to our flat and made the contract there, we got broadband, cable TV and a phone line for £40. Blossom 25-09-04, 02:14 AM you signed for the student plan? and your modem was ok? Blue_Chi 25-09-04, 02:17 AM They have not installed it yet for me. Blossom 25-09-04, 02:21 AM good luck with that then. Blue_Chi 29-09-04, 06:04 AM Hey, I got my broadband connection finally! It is working fine, but we are getting a router soon to share the broadband connection here in our flat. ;) Intellective 04-10-04, 12:49 AM i'm with NTL for about 3 yrs now, and have no problem with them at all. Once i disconnected it for 2 months then went back to them it was easy. i foned them second day they installed it. So far hamdulillah undercontrol.:) Catrina: Maybe depends with the place you are. |
