Starting from some verses of the Quran:
"But whosoever turns away from my message, verily for him is a life narrowed down, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment".
"Those who take for friends unbelievers rather than believers: Is it honour they seek among them? Nay, all honour is with Allah."
Sheik Najeeb, during his Friday sermon, stated that the weakness of Muslim nations is due to the non respect of Islamic principles like those expressed in the previous verses specially when we take unbelievers as friends and go faraway from Allah's guidance.
His main critic about our friendship with unbelievers is that:
Our cowardliness, weakness and selfishness had made us like slaves, Why the unbelievers make airplanes, tanks and advanced technology while we only watch them.
and that our attitude should be different:
Each one of us should do some effort at his individual level where the politician should tell the world what political Islam is, the economist should tell what Islamic economy is, and the educationist should tell what Islam teaches us,"
Is the scenario described by the Imam real or just an exaggeration?
And how should we apply in practice the solution he gave?
