Starting from some verses of the Quran:

"But whosoever turns away from my message, verily for him is a life narrowed down, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment".

"Those who take for friends unbelievers rather than believers: Is it honour they seek among them? Nay, all honour is with Allah."

Sheik Najeeb, during his Friday sermon, stated that the weakness of Muslim nations is due to the non respect of Islamic principles like those expressed in the previous verses specially when we take unbelievers as friends and go faraway from Allah's guidance.
His main critic about our friendship with unbelievers is that:
Our cowardliness, weakness and selfishness had made us like slaves, Why the unbelievers make airplanes, tanks and advanced technology while we only watch them.
and that our attitude should be different:
Each one of us should do some effort at his individual level where the politician should tell the world what political Islam is, the economist should tell what Islamic economy is, and the educationist should tell what Islam teaches us,"

Is the scenario described by the Imam real or just an exaggeration?
And how should we apply in practice the solution he gave?

Could this be it? Sura 3 Ayat 28

English (Yusuf Ali):
3:28 Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah. except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them. But Allah cautions you (To remember) Himself; for the final goal is to Allah.

woow I feel :shy: as a muslim I should have known the Ayah!

Any way, its exactly how I thought about it ..

A Friend in this Ayah, is not supposed to be translated that way .. Its more of an Allaiance . As muslims, we are supposed to ally with muslims and support each other.

Each one of us should do some effort at his individual level where the politician should tell the world what political Islam is, the economist should tell what Islamic economy is, and the educationist should tell what Islam teaches us

I totally agree with this point!!
I mean I think our main problem is that we dont study to benefit the world of Islam.
For example, a muslim economist could help the Islamic world by desiging an intrest free system.
A Dr could help Mufti in issuing fatwa regarding some areas where docters are more knowlegable of and so on ..

I think the Imam meant that for example Shaik Zayed should go to Mr.Schroeder and tell him how he makes politics. Is this possible and how?
Plus what confused me is what he said about techno in general: who said that unbelievers make progress and we only watch them? Yes is the result of a collaboration but he sounds contradicting himself: staying far from kafirs but go and explain them our system.

His point as I understod is that we should work into producing our technology instead of depending on others. Or at least I got it that way

I don't see him exaggerating at all. He's just encouraging muslims to better themselves and spread their religion!

Problem with us is that we just talk. Scholars say you should do this and that and they themselves aren't up off their feet.
