Does any one know whether Islamic banking is even debated as an option for those who are interested in banikng without riba.
here are some sites where one can find info. regarding the subject.
1)A "mine of gold" resource on the subject http://www.soundvision.com/money/
2)did you know that there is an Islamic Dow Jones index, and a class offered by the Dow Jones on-line university on islamic banking!
http://ws2.dju.com/
3)A conf. on Islamc banking http://www.isna.net/conferences/ibfa.asp?cid=4&oid=1 <P>
forget it here in oman , no way.

I think there is a way to have Islamic banking, although it is not available right now in Oman but in most of the Gulf countries you can find Islamic banks and they are doing verry well. For example, Kowait Finance House "بيت التمويل الكويتي " is doing extremely well and its "ربح" on the last year was about 100 million dollars. So for every bad thing you can find an "Islamic" alternative.

Thanks for the info. I think you are right it will be some time before we can have even a stand that is NOT AGAINST islamic banking in Oman, but I hope that people are looking at alternatives to the system at hand, when they consider building a house or financing a bzns.

What is known as Islamic Banking elsewhere is generally referred as Non Conventional Financing in Oman and is available with one or two finance and leasing companies who do transactions as Ijara, Murrabbah and Istitmar. However it is limited to financing. For Deposits in Oman there are no institutions who supply non conventional products. Hopefully soon Oman will catch up with the rest of the markets and we would see full range of options for bank customers.
And also this one would be locked.
Arabian Prince, You can open a new thread with the topic and no need to wake up the dead :)
