I can imagine that the reason why someone would have a preference against such a choice despite the person's repentance, is that although repenting is effective in bringing Divine forgiveness, the fact that the person underwent such an experience will remain in his memory and affect his character for the rest of his life.
Repentance does not erase the effect of the experience. It simply means that the person has decided stop sinning and to improve his future behaviour.
Even after repenting, the sinner will be more likely to commit again the sin that he had committed than someone who hadn't sinned. He needs to be extra careful, and the resolution to be extra careful is itself integral to his repentance.
