As I noticed that they are often differences of opinions even among muslims members, so I would like to know the following, even for the non-muslims:

1) What is your religion?

2) If you are a muslim, are you Sunni, Shi'a, Ibathi or else?

3) Do you follow your religion because you believe in it
or because you were only told by your parents to follow it?

I'm a muslim , my dad is sheie , mom is sunni , and since my dad wasnt really someone to rely on when it came to religion.. my sibling and I followed my mom , in beliefs , praying and everything.

so u can say am a sunni , and i find that its much more compatible to what i myself believe in.

Muslim alhamdulilah ..

Ibadhai because I was brought up in an Ibadhi family .. I make teh prayers and all as an Ibadhai.. I am happy because its my identity .. not because its supirior than any other sect .. I beleive in a muslim unity .. I am not aginst sects if they just restrict to differnces and dont start making fights ..
I am open to all sects too .. this is why when I am faced with a question or a query .. I ask from more than one scholar .. to see what I beleive in.

I was brought up as a muslim .,,, so automaticly somone will think oh well you dont beleive in it .. but no .. I beleive in Islam deeply .. I could choose to be a non-practicing muslim .. somone who wuld hold the Islam sign in his name and now where esle .. but I deeply beleive in it and I try very hard to be a good muslim Inshallah.

I believe in my religion and my sect, I was raised and got to learn all about the different beliefs and ideals, and I fully understand them and would never change them.

Waiting for more answers as I really feel that it is important to know which muslim members belong to which 'sect', to avoid clashes of opinions in any religion threads or islamic topic.

To avoid confusion during any discussion, it is also helpul to know which religion the other members believe in, or if they are atheists.

LOL. Knowing each other's religion hasn't stopped every thread from having clashes of opinion before...

I don't belong to any organized religion. But I'm not an atheist.

Aren't we here to clash to a certain extent?! Or are we to only talk to those who share identical beliefs?!

It was my impression that this is a forum open to all open-minded people, regardless of religion etc to swap ideas, confront other ideas, learn, teach and not censor ourselves... Because there is enough of that already in the real world.

Apologies if I got the wrong end of the stick here! :)

I follow the Sunnah of the Prophet, that indeed is true, but I dont like identifying with any particular sub-group.

I am Muslim, by the arabic definition of the word: I submit to the will of God.

I liked that raffee..

I believe the same we dont have a certain sect except Islam
As one of the Omani scholars said:

In a brief translation to it is that we dont have a certain sect except Islam. We accept the truth/right from whoever it was even if it was from an enemy and we reject the false believe to whom came with it even if he was a beloved one...etc

May Allah let all the Ummah united "Ameen"

MoonChild and Sly,

What I meant was that it will help to understand why certain members post certain replies in a thread, and it will help to "distinguish" each other based on the sect we somehow "belong".

For instance, when we talked about "praying the missed prayers" in one thread, some of us said that it can be done before the obligatory prayers,...while others said no that it should be done after. It is better for a Sunni to know what the Sunnis follows and for a Shi'a to know what a Shi'a follows, even though at the end a "missed prayer" is still a "missed prayer".

@~~Knowing that Icy is Ibathi and me Sunni, I am now more prepared to expect him to post some little differences in his practices than me and vice-versa.

@~~Knowing that Najah or SadLad are Sunnis like me,... when it comes to religious practices, we should post nearly in the same manner.

This still doesn't stop us to disagree about a topic, a verse or any practice regarding any religion or even islam.

Exxy .. to my Knowledge Najah said she is muslim, not sunni or Ibadhai!

I disagree with you .. though am Ibadhi .. when I look for a fatwa I try mostly to read what other sects beleive .. I would like to refer to them as scholars more than sects .. both are right in thier own way .. as long as they make sense ofcourse and as long as they refer to a hadith of Ayah!

After the death of the prophet..........Mouhammed(PBUH)

The muslims have been fighting for the right to say there sect is better.......

Even the Mouhammed said they shouldn't be sects..........only one Islam.........and now we have 1400 years of constant fighting and arguing........

and no end to it........

In all fairness........it happens in Christian sects too.......or Hindus and Jews.

Who needs it........???

People will mess everything up......even if God is standing in front of them........or on TV......

These religions are full of evil people leading the world into a dark future.

Cheers

Yeah, true to a certain extent. Though I don't think I would go as far as to say that these religions are FULL of evil people!

We are all fallible. We are not all evil. Our religions are frequently hijacked by evil people, but the vast majority of people who believe in God or indeed in their other religions are GOOD people who believe they are living good lives.
