It says in verse 238 from surat albaqara:
البقرة (آية:238): حافظوا على الصلوات والصلاة الوسطى وقوموا لله قانتين
I couldn’t find its translation in English.
Anyway, my question is:
What is meant by الصلاة الوسطى (al salat ilwusta) (middle prayer?)
Why is Allah in this verse asking us to take care of that prayer in precise?
My theory:
We should pray five times a day. As it is unknown which of them this salat wusta is, we’ll have to take care of them all, and neglect none.
Correct me if I’m wrong.
Accodring to my information the middle prayer is hidden for a purpose so that a muslim will not just concentrate on one prayer and will pray all of them in time. Or in other words each of the five prayers can be the midddle prayer for the above reason I mentioned.
It's same thing with the night of power (lilat al qadr) in Ramadan, this night is hidden although there are hadiths that it's in the last 10 days of the month.
I was told it was 3assir prayer.

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem
Surat Al-Baqarah verse 238
"Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind)"
Some scoholars say that it is the Aser Prayer because it comes in the middle. But no one can say for certain and I guess u r right .. its like what Ice Tea explained .. because you have to pray all prayers equally and not concentrate on one prayer because its the middle prayer.

[238] Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind).
[239] If ye fear (an enemy), pray on foot, or riding, (as may be most convenient), but when you are in security, celebrate Allah's praises in the manner He has taught you, which ye knew not (before).
[240] Those of you who die and leave widows should bequeath for their widows a year's maintenance and residence; but if they leave (the residence), there is no blame on you for what they do with themselves, provided it is reasonable. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.

Regarding Verse 238, this is the explaination given by Abdullah Yusuf Ali:
The Middle Prayer: Salat al wusta: may be translated "the best or most excellent prayer."
Authorities differ as to the exact meaning of this phrase. The weight of authorities seem to be in favour of interpreting this as the "Asr prayer" (in the middle of the afternoon).
This is apt to be most neglected, and yet this is the most necessary, to remind us of Allah in the midst of our worldly affairs.
