I believe that many of you know that Sultan Qaboos University was opened in 1986 and since then it has been producing so many graduates to the society in various specializations. Now the big question is:
Do the qualities of these graduates match the labor market’s expectations and needs? Or is the market (whatever public or private sector) forced to receive them just because they are Omani regardless of the training they got at SQU? I’m not questioning the academic programs they underwent at the University… I’m just worried how the outside community would view what they receive and if there is any kind of communication that should be established between the two sides….
I would love to know what you think about this issue…
LEO
i feel that most of the graduates from SQU are very intelligent but they have lack of conversation ( communication ).. and cant express them selves well in English!! and thats why they don’t really do well in there job's.. they still have this thing in them called "shyness" .. which i think by the time they graduate they should have that out !! and they are suppose to be able to communicate with others and express them selves. !!
I agree with you SOME1...
This problem of communication is still there... As a matter of fact the whole problem of English started from schools where the English Language is not being practiced sufficiently there and the product (3rd sceonday pupils) are not qualified in this area. In spite of that I can confidently say that this product will definitely be much much better through the BASIC EDUCATION System which prepares the pupils from GRADE 1 to deal with English. Some parents feel that this might be a little bit tough but certainly it is for the cridet of the learner eventually...
Again yeah... English is a problem but I think it is being gradually overcome... I think also that the courses in SQU are also tailored to fit into this system as well..

Well my man/lady, you have raised big issues with your little innocent question, and not to worry there's always a light at the end of the tunnel - regardless of how dim or how long the tunnel is...and that could be the front lights of an oncoming train.!! seriously.. note, to the judge or to at least to attempt to, is like skinning an elephant with neadle..!!! so lets leave that to the labor market...and moreover the law of supply and demand....anyway i personally like the uni's campus buildings..it's quite an architectural monument.
properly, pritt and whitney had donated couple of jet engines to the engineering school, or the SQU is closely linked with such fine world class learning institutions as Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge...at least with some schools, furthermore. SQU has one of the most advanced unversity Hospitals in the world, please don't stop me yet, have i heard all the english language teachers are natives..? if such a thing exists...so would not it not be fair to question the omani students capabilities which, undoubtedly is as good as any instead of SQU as learning place..or have i missed something from your views..? hope not!
finally, whoever claimed that public education system is prefect has cognitive inabilities of his/her own!
keep talking:)

it's true that SQU graduates are not that qualified in English as other graduates from other private collages in Oman..
I don't know why?!!
at the collage I study in.. there were lots of Omanis who never knew how to build-up one correct sentence.. & by the time they graduated.. they were giving perfect speaches in English.. I believe that the standard of Engish in this collage is high.. the teachers are good.. & the text books are fulfilling the needs..
In SQU.. if you have no Engish backround .. then you gona be lost!!!!
well that's my view about this.. cause I have met lots of SQU graduates who didn't know how to speak in Engish.. they had no confidence.. & I don't blame them.. but the ...ummm..the.. maybe the University Engish standard .. !!!

I may agree with just little, but the central question is, why do they need to study in english?, why do our banks or commercial enterprises run in english, it's all good and dandy, to learn and fluentlt speak a foreign language be it english or hindi..;p preferably english..!!!!
but really is something is wrong teaching and working in arabic????
beats me, but it sounds as oman is an other malysia or singapore, where you have lots of diff languages and backgrounds...i though oman is somewhat more heterogeneous country,
let's perhaps i was wrong!!!!???
