Al Mufti finally uses astronomy for Ramadhan moon sightation!!!

Finally, scientific advances in astronomy are being utilised to agree when the first day of Ramadhan starts!!!

Well, there was this programme on TV this evening about moon sightation.

They had a few discussions about using technology to predict Ramadhan moon. They breifly explained how astronomers can predict when the first day of the lunar months is and said that the first of Ramadhan is going to be Monday 27/10/2003 astronomically. However, saying that it doesn't mean people should stop looking for the moon. They also said if some people thought they saw the moon and astronomically that was not possible, they'd take the astronomical point of view. Here this was confirmed by Al Mufti.

As far I know…

Last year if u recall, at the first day of Ramadhan, the crescent ‘ Al-Hilal’ appeared in larger size, as it was for second not first…but again as u all know, it the ‘vision’ which decided the a start in Oman…

Anyway that time, there was lot of doubt and confusion between public ..and there was a big talk that we have started late by one day …this happened provided that Saudi had fast one day earlier ( as they are following fixed timing based on their astronomical estimation’…..

This year the event of ‘vision’ enlarged little where they broadcasted this Seminar on TV were both participating, the ‘ vision’ party and astronomers, the program has shown a kind of proof that the ‘ vision’ method agreed to what scientists were expecting ..

But there is no such that we r going to depend on astronomers or something to decide on …but we have it as a guide’ as usual’ but still the ‘ vision’ and looking will be the only confirmation….

This what could I understand….
