well as the title might seem funny, but this is a true case for many people.
The moment they see a guy with a beared, or someone who is so religious they dont want to argue with them or whatever.
This didnt come out of nothing, its a result of how those "mutawaa" deal with people.

Some of them would really judge people on what they do. Oh this guy smokes, and so they start giving them lectures and show them that they are worth nothing because they do that certain sin.

Ok, I agree that one of the jobs of a muslim is to advice and "amr bilmarouf" but the way some people do it keep the person ina defensive mode.

I know that there are some shikhs who I would not listen to, because I dont like thier way of lectureing it makes me feel as if I am a great sinner and all the good things I do are nothing.

what do you guys think?? and do you beleive this is a serious problem that need to be addressed by the muslim community? and how to solve it?

I agree with you. This is a serious problem, being at the position of attack would not make anyone listen to you. There should be ways of talking to the person you're trying to advice. Solving it is only going to be speech. Those sheikhs need to understand the fact, they can't just go blab and blab. Mashalla, they are educated and all.. they are blessed by God for being great sheikh, but they should have qualities that would stand for them.

Well Princess...

The problem can actually be devided into two main problems. Depending on the point of views;

1) The Mutawaas that dont know how to send the message to the other party in a good way. Such as forcing instead of convinsing or showting instead of talking nicely. While actually their qudwa should be Mohammed (PBUH);

2) The people who can be devided into two categories;
a) Those who do not care at all about Islam and are only called muslims because they were born like this. These people will not accept anything from Mutawas because they think that they are there to spoil their fun !
b) Those who are muslims and do the basic Islamic teachings, but still commit sins. These that their souls are week and do not have '3eera on Islam and think that ( Ohh, these mutawas are complicated people...I pray and fast.. what else do they want from me ? These people make Islam look very bad.) !
The problem with these people is that they think they are following the right thing (such as those women who say that they dont wear hijab, but they pray and they are better than those who wear hijab!!!!). (Or those men who shave their beard because it is (only sunnah) according to their imagination!!!)

I try to avoid ma6aw3a when ever I can.....they call me kaffir and all that.....THey threaten me with hell.....not a good way to bring people to the right path. Once I was wearing shorts and one mo6wa3 said why r u naked...3aib......what the hell....I was wearing three quarter shorts and a shirt. THere are only a few ma6awa3a I like who dont make me feel bad.

If every cleric got a proper education other than just studying religion their entire life ... than it would not be a problem ...

But until they start getting degrees in the arts & sciences (Case in note: Sheikh Khalfan is an engineer)

... most of these clerics will only appeal to the lowest common denominator of society ... that is the ignorant or uneducated.

I totally agree with you pretender .. some of those shyokh never saw the world and they dont understand that they way of advicing people nowadays is totally different than it was 20 years back!

Gwan, yes some muslims wouldnt want to listen or get advices, but its mainly because they couldnt get the person who apealed to them!!
I know a friend who never wanted to listen or hear from anyone .. because when she was abroad .. a bunch of ladies from a gulf countries started accusing her and from there on she started fearing hearing to any Islamic lecture .. she knows she is wrong .. but the way those ladies talked to her, made her feel as if she is a sinner that cannot repent!
Now, she never misses Amr Khalid lectures. She loves the way he talks! and how can he enter the heart!!
They need psychology to understand how to reach people's heart!!

they call me kaffir and all that.....THey threaten me with hell.

Question is, do you pray ? Do you drink alcohol ? Do you have relations with women ?
This are all questions you should ask your self because then it is not them that call you kaffir, but the Quran !
Second we believe in Hell. They are not threating only, but they are also reminding ! Again the question to ask is...If they talked about Jannah will you be ready to listn ? As much as we should remmember Jannah we should also remmember Hell, so why do we get upset when people remind us of them ?!

not a good way to bring people to the right path
Unfortunately some people do not want to go back to the right path. They know they are doing wrong, but its thier proudness (Takabur) that is stopping them from listning to Allahs teachings and its their ignorance that stops them from stopping what their souls want although they know it is wrong.

Again i say the problem is in both, people and some mutawa. Putting the blame on the Mutawaa,,,and not trying to know what your religions teachings are just because of the mutawaas way is not an excuse what so ever !!!

I was wearing three quarter shorts
Was it above your knee or below it ? If it wasnt covering your knee then you know that you are showing your (3awra) according to the Hadeeth of Mohammed (PBUH). If it was covering your (3awra) then i dough that the one who talked to you is a mutawa3 !

I agree that they should braouden their knowledge, but it seems you forgot one Ayyah;

And it does not beseem the believers that they should go forth all together; why should not then a company from every party from among them go forth that they may apply themselves to obtain understanding in religion, and that they may warn their people when they come back to them that they may be cautious?

most of these clerics will only appeal to the lowest common denominator of society ... that is the ignorant or uneducated

Total disagree over here .... Mohammed (PBUH) said;
(من أراد الله به خيرا فقهه في الدين)

When your goal is this vanishing life then this would be your view about mutawaa, while if you really cared about the Akhira, then you see how lucky these people are.

NOTE: THERE ARE NOT CLERKS IN ISLAM ! all muslims are expected to know as much as they can about thier religion.
