This is a true live incident that I was personally involved with in Al-Khuweir some 3 to 4 months ago!.
The man had come from the Bank. I do not know what transpired in the bank, what I do know that as soon as he got in the car where his wife was waiting, he SLAPPED her, not once or twice, but several times!!.
The wife got out of the car, and the man was following her, telling her 'to get inside the car'. The woman was crying profusely. She was just 20 or 22, the man was slightly older, both Omanis.
I, none of my business, was just staring in disbelief, very embarrassed, seeing some Indians saying ...Omanis .....beating.....wife...road.......public .....etc.
The lady, quiet attractive and beautiful too, seeing a fellow Omani, comes to me crying to tell 'her husband to leave her alone, as she will not get into his car'.
The husband warns me aggressively, 'none of your business, do not get involved, she is my "WIFE", so I can do anything with her!'.
I then retort, 'but you have no right to beat her in a public place, if you have any differences, sort it out in the house in private'.
"Shut up, you one with no behaviour (sic!), first go and learn Arabic, before you open your mouth to speak to anyone", he says.
'Okay, I shall go and call the Police (on my GSM), to which the man leaves on half-clutch. I ask the lady to come to my office, the other girls in the office surround and sympathise with her.
20 minutes later her sister takes her away. She says he is always beating her, he is alcoholic, and when the bank do not allow overdraft, he beats his wife, as if she is responsible for his dillemma!.
Two days later, the wife 'tries to date me' to show her appreciation. Maybe my Arabic is not that good (like the man said, you fil-hy Zinj....ri!)- but I at least recognise the words and what they mean ....tell me how I can show my gratitude to you??. She says she has asked for divorce, the man had refused. Her family is taking him to court).
If you beat that woman, she will retaliate in the only natural way women do, sleep with anyone who may come along.
So husbands, boyfriends, fiancees etc - if you beat her - take special note!!.
The devil in me sometimes wishes she does call back one day, though I thank my religion for remaining still good!.
