I know this topic has been discussed 100X but I am discussing a different concept.
You need 4 wittnesses to proof adultry. Isn't that like saying I need 4 wittnesses to proof you went to the toilet when you live alone in a flat!! Isn't this in a way saying that:
"Practice adultry as long as there is no one to see you. If 1 or 2 or 3 people saw you it is ok. You need 4 as a witness. So just go on you are on the safe side."
So indirectly, this law really applies to women, cause they usually get pregnant if they don't have a clue about 'contraception' or when she gets married the husband divorces her because she is not a vergin unless she does a surgery!!
First of all the stonning not for the woman only it's for both if it's proved they did it and with wittnesses. So it's not correct to say it only apply to women.
Second thing every muslim knows that adultry is "haram" so we can't say that I can still have sex with this woman because no body see me therefore I won't be stonned. Allah see everthing and the person will be punished according to the good deeds and sins he or she do.
i think it's because of magnitude of the punishment that 4 witnesses are needed which is almost impossible unless one works in a striptease bar.
but sehma u could be right, the law could be there to protect women who get pregnant like the Nigerian lady in the news (can't remember her name).

Well if the woman got pregnant it means Allah chooses not to hide the crime she and the man did. Maybe it comes back to the way it happened???
Plus a woman can name the person she did the crime with?!!
The four witnesses are because many people could easily spoil others reputation.
This reminds me of yesterday.. I was watching News on either CNN or BBC, they were saying about a woman (Amina.. I am not sure if that is her correct name or not).. she has a child which is out of wedlock.. and she is been prosecuted by the Islamic Court, the verdict was that she has to pay for what she did, maybe to be stoned by the public untill she dies..
Currently, she is fighting for her life because of her baby.. she does not want to die..
Anyone knows about this???
I dont know what is the real story behind it.. but I am surprised why is only the woman is being prosecuted and not with the man?
Or maybe she came forward on her own? Or the man is scared so he ran away?
Shocking and very sad to that little girl:fire:
Plus a woman can name the person she did the crime with?!! Sure, but without the couple doing the dance of love in a public park or something, where are you going to get four witnesses.
The man will walk free every time
