Every time a car breaks down, the good soul here would stop to volunteer to help!. The good wife usually gets really mad about this, especially when a beautiful damsel is in distress.

One time I stopped to help this beautiful lady (tyre puncture) in a BMW 7 series, and she (that is the wife) took a week to simmer down, because the lady ‘was actually flirting’ with me!. I did not notice, since I was busy changing the tyre for her. On hinder sight, she might have been right. The wife retorted, ‘I hope one day when you are in trouble, someone will actually stop to help you!.

Today Saturday in Al-Khuwair, at around 1 p.m., my great American pride, the Dodge Durango, just decide to stop on the road. Although they say it was even tested in the Gulf countries, perhaps not in the heat of the summer??. The car just stopped, for no apparent reason than American mule stubbornness!.

There was a lot of honking, ‘no patience man, get this thing out of the way’ – and I was pushing for more than 5 minutes alone, just this heavy 4WD American huge car, almost a ton in weight!. It was also scalding hot, and my hands were actually being barbequed as I touch the full steel frame of the car, you wished it was a lighter Japanese body frame then!!.

Then these three gentlemen appeared from nowhere to assist to push, one fellow Omani, one Arab national and one Indian gentleman. The others just looked in ‘don’t care a hoot indifference’ and ‘in amusement merriment – a largely built man pushing a large car on his own, surely an entertaining bit!!.

I thank these three gentlemen, profusely, whoever they are. They waited to see if I needed further help, I said I shall call someone to pick me, so they left!!.
To add insult over injury (the vehicle is only one year old!), this time around, when I started the car, it did start (Automatic gear).

What happened to the Omani tolerance, patience and understanding, and driving ethicets found before in Oman driving?? This guy behind me was actually honking his car, ‘asking to push my vehicle faster, because I was blocking him!’.

Is it just the heat or is it losing faith, tolerance and understanding in the society now???

Regards,

MagicMan.

what a shame on us, i guess ppl were in a hurry to reach home, and i think that the weather has alot to do with it.

heat makes ppl hot tempered, and clod makes ppl cold... i'm sure its the weather!

I have to say that I remember when people on the road only a few years ago were so patient and helpful and always had time for someone else. Nowadays this attitude has caught up even with us the humble Omanis. I hate to see our peoples' generosity wasting away. Especially in the capital. If you go to the smaller towns you will still find the same humble nature of helping your fellow man.

Bro,
yes you did not get help this time .. but that des not mean that the patience in Oman has finished .. I still beleive like there is someone like ( good soul) in Oman .. there are alot outthere :)
Let me tell you this story that my Dad always tells me ..
My grandfather was stopping everytime anyone asks for a lift in the road .. one day he had a heart attack .. and my grandmother needed to get a list to send him fast to the hospital .. and less than few seconds .. people stopped from him .. it was the return from Allah because he always helps people ..

maybe you were just infront the wrong guy .. and u said .. maybe it was the heat that lighted up thier nerves and made them immpatient :)

I just wana add some points to what our arbprnces had said..
when you do a favour..don't wait for it to be paid back to you.. be sure that Allah knows that you did it.. & if you don't get paid for it today.. you'll defenetly get it back tomorrow..
so do it for your own benefits.. do it because you wanted to do it.. & keEp smiLing :)
