well every one knows the the big difference in the media between the west and our ones
and to not let this topic diverse into whatever side let me concintrate on a specific aspect in this

I was wondering...Lets take CNN..its broadcasting worldwide !!!
NBC as well...Fox...BBC...
and not only that...they even try and fit into the specific culture that they r broadcasting in...

Asian news and Cultural aspects in BBC news and CNN!!!!

So they have the way to our population,,Not only us BUT worldwide!

Now every one knows that the world now became a small Village!
and the Key of any info and power is within the Powerfull media and what does it show and what does it HIDE ;)

During war (specially Iraq) and even palestine issue...CNN and BBC was in many aspect say what is MUCH MUCh away and if i better say the opposite of what the local medias (eg.alarabya!or aljazeera!))in many aspects!...

Yet they still get into us!
I wonder

we have the money!...we have the abbility! we have the perfect ways to be in the seen of action when its required!...Our reporters r in some aspects even get better coverage than the other western media !!!!

Al-Jazeera has become a worldwide exlcusive news channel, BBC, CNN and all other channels take some news from Al-Jazeera and broadcast it on thier channel with the Al-Jazeera logo on it. Al-Jazeera is now a worldwide known channel, you can even see it in some msuic videos, Madonna's original American Life's video.

Having an ARABIC channel in ENGLISH is a weird idea, but I think that it is necessay to change the curreny wrong idea about the Arab, but who is going to pay to see an Arabic channel in the west?!? Even if we did get the channel broadcasted and everything, I think that it would be just like having a Jewish channel broadcasted here, no one is really going to watch it, we will consider it as an invasion of media.

AL Jazeera is run from london and is a ******** channel. Its just there so morons like you can say " OH thank god someone is representing us" ITS REALLY RUN BY THE BBC IN LONDON and other headquarters in Qatar which we all know is a ******** state

I don't think Aljazeera is doing a good job.. sometimes they have good programs and other times they seem to be all fake.. but I think some new arabic channels started to compete with them and that's good..
The CNN is the worst news channel I have ever watched.. I cannot stand watching anymore!!

I heard that they are building a BBC station in Oman, somewhere close to Sur.. it has been two years since they started and they aren't done yet (that's what i heard)

Americans have wrong views about us not just because of their biased media.. coz they don't care about knowing us aslaan.. They think the US is everything. That's not all but the majority.

I have written once to al jazeera on why dont they start a programe in english at least and then they could think of a channel.

This time when I was NZ a person one asked me about Al Jazeera, he said he thinks its a good channel but they cant get it. Why dont a well financed channel like Al-Jazeera broadcast much more widley? especially if ts intention to give the clearer picture. (sometimes I dought that)

Well aljazeera is good in terms of showing some interesting interviews and news that WILL NOT be broadcasted from a western country.

Arby, Aljazeera down here can be received on cable.

Didn't get the chance to watch this new channel called 'Al Arabiya'
but seems that it is doing well. Which also means that Aljazeera will be working harder in terms of competition.

We do need an english broadcasting channel. That is targeted on english speaking countries.
We need a better media that tells the world the truth of what is going on.

for example, i notice in particular lots of coverage when there's a suicide bomber in israel. but have really noticed that there is hardly ever any news of the killings in palestine.

you lot might not rate al jazeera but believe me when i say, lots of people are just gagging for news other than bbc and cnn and if they could understand arabic, would watch it 24/7.

ok, it may be a little dramatic, but at least it's another perspective.

ultimately when we listen to and read news, it's our own perceptions and persuassions that provide us with the news - as we want to hear it.

Yeah. We should have an Arab channel that broadcasts in English. So that people get to know OUR point of view.

I have heard they are building three Arabic news networks which will broadcast english/arabic based out of France. I also notice there are alot of much better Channels on satellite better than Al Jazeera, ja? I have plenty on time being a lonley bored housewife to watch this Channels.

Iraq council 'to ban Arab networks'

The US-appointed Governing Council in Iraq has decided to ban two leading Arabic news channels from the country for allegedly inciting violence, according to reports.

Member Samir al-Sumaidy said the council had discussed "abuses by certain Arabic media, particularly al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya" and "tough and dissuasive measures" would be taken against them", French news agency AFP reported.

The news channels have angered Iraqi officials in recent weeks by broadcasting pictures of masked men calling for attacks against US-led occupation forces.

The US civilian administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, must approve such a move before any action can be taken, and both networks said they had received no official notification about a ban.

"We have not been advised officially of such a decision. Our office is still open, our people are still working. It's business as usual," said al-Jazeera spokesman Jihad Ballout.

In Iraq, US forces killed at one person in a raid on a house near Falluja, west of Baghdad, on Tuesday.

Falluja is a stronghold of supporters of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and has been a flashpoint for attacks on US troops.

Reporters 'face expulsion'

Media reports say the Governing Council voted to expel reporters from both channels for a month.

The UK's Times newspaper quoted council member Mudhar Shawkat as saying: "Inciting violence is what these channels proclaim.

"They show men in masks carrying guns and call them 'resistance'. They're not resistance, they're thugs and criminals," he said.

Mr Shawkat said the council's attitude towards the broadcasters hardened after the attempted assassination of council member Aqila al-Hashimi at the weekend.

Bremer dilemma

Qatar-based al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya, which is based in Dubai, have a large team of reporters in Iraq and have earned a wide following across the Arab world.

If Mr Bremer endorses a ban, he risks fuelling suspicion the Governing Council is a puppet of the US-led Coalition Authority

If he overrules the move, he risks alienating America's allies on the council.

Al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya have defended themselves against charges of bias, saying they present the views of all sides.

I think al jazeera is doing a good job and not biased like CNN. And thats why the US planted political government in Iraq or what is called "majlis al 7ukm" banned al Jazeera and it's sister al arabia from covering it's activities in Iraq, becasue mama America don't like those channels.

How can you trust the broadcasting of a channel that goes about sticking Tayseer's pictures (a suscpected alQaida dealer!!) on their jacket..... give me a break! It will be hard for me to trust such a channel!! Because its reporters reflect their 'personal' views with such a thoughtless act!!!

And I don't see any problem with al jazeera reporters hunging Tayseer's pic even if they did that for the whole year. Why, becasue he is working in al jazeera and by doing that they are supporting him and not leave him alone to show the world what is happining is against the freedom of the media.

i agree with you completely. it's a sign of respect and support. al jazeera might not be perfect and will have it's own bias and agenda. but please tell me which media doesn't.

both in the US and UK they do - just they have many more years experience and are far more able to disguise it.

besides, back to the issue. who on earth is paul bremner to put a ban on these channels! the reasons are apparently because they incite terrorism.

oh and blasting innocent iraqi's to bits isn't terrorism!

When I want the real news.......say for example in Kenya.......I just call up telephone infomation......and when I get the Kenyan operator....I ask..BTW........What's up there?

You'd be surprised what you learn from bored telephone operators worldwide..and it's a free call.

And the French media said : The Iraqi's wanted the americans to come in and we Kill them! - It's a message that is loud and clear with the U.N Bombing.


When the War was going on I use to see the News from all over and Esp. EuroNews and Indian News! bcoz of neutrality.


The best perpective in case of issue like the palestinain and Iraqi's is to watch a neutral Media! Not Arab nor West Bcoz both are Biased! - Which is a natural feeling of Patriotism!


But In general for me the Western media has more crediablity than the Arab!

al jazeera and al arabiya might not be up to it - i don't know. i don't understand arabic (well bits) so can't really judge. but i do know that alot of people over here would really want to see and hear it *as it is* and not through the eyes of the bbc.

just as an example; since i've returned from the UAE, i've seen little or no news on the killings in palestine. in contrast though, i've seen every suicide bomb in israel. i was shocked at such blatant neglect to provide the full story. we have to go look for it on the net :(

i don't completely agree with you here. iv'e spent many years in the UAE and remember seeing the suicide bombings reported. of course, we saw plenty of the atrocities against the palestinians - on a daily basis.

but we don't see that here. our beloved BBC and ITN news just don't cover it :lost:

however, what i'm trying to say is that to hope for neutral news on every global issue is unrealistic.

during the iraq war, bbc reported that that there had been an uprising in basra. showing a reporter saying "reporting live from basra" whereas infact, we learned days later that this was totally fabricated and the reporter was not actually in basra and there had been no uprising. same as the story about the toppling of sadam's statue. completely fabricated - lies.

so to conclude my long-winded explanations, i feel it's absolutely essential for the arab/muslims to establish a reputable media source - in english and have it aired all over europe.

i know plenty of people who would sit glued to it. the average person over here is lacking severly in good news and most particularly from the middle east. i wouldn't expect it not to be bias. but would certainly appreciate another perspective.

as always, it's up to the individual to make and informed choice based on all media reporting. you can't be well informed if you only watch or read one side. which sadly is pretty much the case over here.
