we always base our opinions here in sabla and in real sabla about things we hear from public.

what do you feel about that? is it right or wrong?

I personaly feel that we shouldnt take everything we hear for granted. People love to fascinate things. For example, a case which could be so simple could bring up another 10 cases which are so fascinating. When you ask those concerned, they tell all are not true!!

I think people love to add spices to thier stories, this is why I dont like to take anything I hear for granted unless I hear it from someone who is concerned about the matter or specialized in that field.

Thats what I call Rumour mongering or heresay or even idle talk or empty talk. plenty of hot air. Most of the time those kind of things are not supported with proof/evidence/exhibit and so forth.

. Ali or John can come up with a wierd story like ie............I hear Mti is not a fisherman but a carpenter blah blah.......Treat it as rubish and jump to the next file as it is waste of time and breath.

well it's really wrong to take things we hear or believe what we hear we first have to make sure by asking the concerned ones. that's what i do . when i hear something about someone the first thing i do is go straight away and ask that person even if it was bad thing, just to make sure that i've been fair.....
i think we all should do the same....

if it about a person then it might be easy to know the truth by asking him, what if it was a public rumoer about the govt or whatever else???

you might not know if it is true or not .. but because it sound a fascinating thing to spread .. people just spread it!

Well it is the only source of information in a 'corrupted' government like Oman's ... where 'facts' are buried under the ground away from the citizens.... !!

and that gives everyone the right to talk about it badly?!!!!

well i would say that people have no right to talk about their government badly at the same time the gov shouldnt give them the chance to ........

The way I see it, people are basing thier stories on no grounds most of the times. and they keep on spreading them contoniously until one story becomes 10!

i dont think no matter how littile transparncy we have, we should continue doing this!!

Oh, so you are advising people not to question their government because they heard something bad..... I think that's against the Prophets teaching every citizen has the right to question corruption!! Unless of course if you want to continue living like headless chickens;)

There is a saying in Arabic THERE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE:fire:

In the West and not the 'sleeping world' you like to continue living in, bad reputation is a clear indication for bad service or at least an indication for investigating that service.

Scientifically, qualitative research is based on taking people's perception of a service. Whatever, they say is highly valued and would be a reason to investigate a corrupted service!!

If a patient says this hospital is crap, they've killed my child. Then the government is corrupted not to investigate it. No one would just make a story like that. If a patient is happy the way his child died, then his opinion would also be valued because it shows the government is offering the people good services. So the main point people's talking in 80% of cases is valuable, as they reflect their experience with the government either through a hospital, a police station or whatever!! Most opinions are what count... let us face the facts everyone is complaining accept the blind who like to shut their eyes and ACT everything is normal....

Especially when the majority think it is corrupted .... espcially when the poor ones ... NOT the ones who sleep on a bile of money or lived all their life in a fancy world ..... and don't have the slightest idea about 60% of the population who is living below poverty!

I like a saying by I don't who:
"The moral test of the Nation lies in how it treats those in the dawning of life; its elderly, and those in the shadows of life; its poor and its minorities."

Seham, people use the saying (there is no smoke without fire ) to make excuses for thier stories.

No one would be happy that thier child died, but some would know its qathaa wa qadar (fate) and some will continue blaming the hospitals when the docter tried whatever he could. There is no docter who will purposly kill his patient!! (and they are questioned if somone reported)

regarding making up stories, well in fact people do make them!!
many time I heared stories and when I go and ask people who are concerned they tell me nothing of it is right. Best example are SARS !! No case was found in Oman and beleive me I heared from the public that 6 people died!! I asked a friend who works in a lab where they should reported if a case happened and she confirmed that its not true!!

you guys are talking as if we dont have a system and we are living in a jungle and nothing can be done!!!

haram 3alykum!!! this is one reason why the govt doesnt listens to the citezens the way they want, because they dont know how to criticize. Everything is bad and full stop!!

Well - tell me Arby .. what excatly are you trying to tell us.. is there a topic here in the sabla which you don't find right?!! I mean is it to do with the Government Currapted topic? or whatever they call it!?

Well - sure it is no good to tlak about the Government that way .. but i believe not everything which is said are not not true as well?!

Yes adding is a must thing.. i mean please think about it .. i might tell you something.. you would tell someon else.. that perosn would somehow add something differnet while telling the other person.. and it goes on and on.. till it becomes like a Film Hindi :D
That is jsut the fact .... it happens and who does not know that!!

You can easily solve a roumer which is based on someone "that is true" but when it has to involve the Government "than i itll would say there is no Smoke with out fire" 50% may be true and 50% may be just add ups!"

my point is, many times when we discuss a topic .. even here in sabla we will say:"you know I heared once that this thing happened and the government did blah blah blah"

is it fair?? we base our arguments on somthing heared not even witnessed!!!
then we start insisting that what we heared was right even if it was otherwise!!

I am not experiencing this in sabla only, but everywhere. I am a person who likes to be sure and I try all the time to find somone who is related to area where the issue is concerend. Alot of times it happens to be nonesense and the truth so much different than whats spread.

I wanted to raise this issue because I think its one of our problems .. we listen too much to gossips!!

The brain.

.
Why ppl use the hearing as a source of info:

* One of the reasons : is shortage of media which can publish the other side of government performance

I mean all or lets say most what we read on our newspapers is just miracles of the government and how successful the projects & how perfect r the agreements and how valuable certain laws..

There is no transparency in givin public the other side of…
So ' her to go' use the gossip… I don’t think its right …the problem when start exaggerating and some smart ***** who likes fishing in dark water take the chance and will put their poison recipe here & there… simple ppl will add spice to the news but those smarty one will add the poison..

Again there some lights when I see some programs on TV such as ‘ daerat Aldhaw’ the spot circle & ‘AlBath Mubasher’ the online broadcast..

The bad thing is one ppl use this ‘hearing’ source about individuals and initiate rumors that targeting their decent & reputation….. where is no way to erase it or corrected through any media…

This has been going on for ages.. and I definately don't like the way it is... but that's what people use nowadays as a source to communicate with one another..

You see, when people call each other, this is how they start their conversations: Waish Akhabar? Aish Jadeed? And therefore, all the rumours and talks are spread :p

Working on to stop that is partially impossible, because people are just used to that .. Well, I hope it will .. It's too unfortunate to hear things that never exist or that are untrue..

Then you are really more stupid than i could possibly imagine, and i have huge imagination.

This is just another gossip forum, like sitting in a coffee shop gossiping about other people, insulting them. I don't see any benefit apart from relieving stress for this forum. All your topics are usually childish and any serious topic ends up being throwing insults at each other or it turns into a childish gossip chatty rubbishy farce.
