First and foremost we must find you face shape. Just by measuring your face with a ruler or tape measure you can easily tell which hair style will look best on you.
1. Simply measure your face across the top of your cheekbones.
2. Write down the measurement on a piece of paper.
3. Measure across your jaw line from the widest point to the widest point. Write down the measurement.
4. Measure across your forehead at the widest point. Generally the widest point will be somewhere about halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline. Write down the measurement.
5. Measure from the tip of your hairline to the bottom of your chin.
Below are the results of your face shape.
Oval Face - Length equal to one and a half times width.
Round Face - Your face is as wide as it is long. This may vary a little but generally the measure is close.
Oblong - Longer than it is wide.
Heart - Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones/and or forehead.
Square - your face is about as wide as it is long.
Diamond - Widest at cheekbones, narrow forehead, and jaw line of approximately equal widths.
If Your Face Is Oval...
Oval is only slightly narrower at the jaw line than at the temples, with a gently rounded hairline.
TRY:
If your face shape is Oval you can basically pull off any hair style with any length. Have you ever noticed the majority of models fall into this shape? Have you noticed how many different hairstyles they can wear? You face is evenly distributed which gives you any kind of balance you may need for your hair.
AVOID:
Long thick bangs and bushiness around the face.
CELEB LOOK:
For long hair try the Jennifer Anniston look.
For medium length hair try the Cindy Crawford look.
And for short hair try the Courtney Cox Arquette style.
If Your Face Is Rectangular...
Long and slender, about the same width at forehead and just below cheekbones. May have a very narrow chin or a very high forehead.
TRY:
If you face shape is rectangular or oblong, short or medium length are the best hairstyles for you. Lots of layers and fullness around your face is also great to make it seem more slim and short.
AVOID:
Too much length on your hair because it will make you face seem long and wide.
CELEB LOOK:
For Long styles, try theJanet Jackson look.
For Medium styles, try Kirstie Alley's hair-do.
For Short styles, try Nikki Taylor's style.
If Your Face Is Round...
Full-looking face with a round chin and hairline. Widest point is at the cheeks and ears.
TRY:
You will want to look for high ness at the crown and volume for your round face. Layers also look great for you, and by layering the top it will improve the length of your face making it seem narrower and longer.
AVOID:
Chin length bobs or flipped under hair. It only improves the roundness to your face and makes you seem like Roley Poley Oley.
CELEB LOOK:
For Long do's, try Charlotte Church looks.
For Medium do's, try Christina Ricci looks.
For Short do's, try Drew Barrymore looks.
If Your Face Is Square...
A strong, square jaw line and usually an equally square hairline.
TRY:
Short to Medium length hair, with a wave or roundness around the face. Usually wispy bangs and layers around the face take the square box look away.
AVOID:
Long straight styles that just make you look squarer. Make sure there is some kind of volume or layer to your hair to take the square ness off of your face.
CELEB LOOK:
For Long styles, try Demi Moore hair cuts.
For Medium styles, try Sandra Bullock hair cuts. (Sandra Bullock PIcture)
For Short style, try Kristin Scott Thomas hair cuts.
If Your Face Is Heart-Shaped...
Face is wide at the temples and hairline, narrowing to a small delicate chin.
TRY:
Chin length or longer styles. Part your hair on the side is also a good tip. A Chin length Bob is great for your face! You can wear shorter styles, however if you are a dramatic heart shape you need to leave weight in the back nape area. This will achieve more balance between your dramatic cheekbones and more narrowing chin.
AVOID:
Short and full styles that bring too much focus to your upper face. Volume and height is not good as well. Slicked back looks aren't so great on your heart shaped face either.
CELEB LOOK:
For Long styles, look to Lucy Lawless.
For Medium length styles, look to Jennifer Love Hewitt for styles.
For Short length styles, look to Ashley Judd for styles.
If Your Face Is Triangular...
Reverse of the heart-shaped . . . a dominant jaw line with narrowing at the cheek bone and temples.
TRY:
Shorter hair that balances prominent jaw line. Styles that are full at the temples, taper at the jaw. Off center parts. Wedges and shags look great on you. You need lots of layers to achieve fullness through the upper part of your face.
AVOID:
Long, full hairstyles that draw attention to jaw line. Center parts—off-center is more flattering.
CELEB LOOK:
For hairstyles, look to Kathy Ireland.
If Your Face Is Diamond-Shaped...
A cross between heart and a dramatic oval. Widest at the cheekbones and narrow equally at the forehead and jaw line.
TRY:
Your face shape is balanced and dramatic. Try a variety of styles, most everything works with your face (as long as you are a true diamond). You can wear shorter styles, however if you are a dramatic diamond shape you need to leave weight in the back nape area like a heart shaped face.
AVOID:
You can do just about everything, but try not to wear too much hair on your face, thereby hiding your great features.
CELEB LOOK:
For long hair try this Jennifer Anniston look.
For medium length hair try this Cindy Crawford look.
And for short hair try this Courtney Cox Arquette style.
