View Full Version : Replacing words!

Ever noticed how now a days almost everyone uses English words like “OK”, “Any how”, “Already”, ”Hard luck”, ”Twins”, “Yes”, “No”, “Believe me”, “Of course”, “So”…etc. in their Arabic dialogue. For instance someone will say in Arabic “Ana already kalmat elmudeer”, “Ana 3indi Twins” ...etc.
Are we replacing our own languages? Do you think people in America or UK use Arabic words in their dialogues? I don’t think so!

Let’s discuss this issue.

well...sometimes i dont find the right word in arabic to talk, so i replace it with english as u said..

sometimes its very diffecult to find the exact word that u want in arabic and sometimes u dont find at all, thats why we replace it in arabic..
like "already"...i dont find a exact word for it.

It is not a matter whether one replaces a word instead of using the same word in Arabic. This will go back to the language mostly spoken in your family and the language that you feel comfortable talking with.

As in the previous Thread p“ I am cool coz I speak English” – we have found out that there are people that speak English because they are comfortable with the language and they find it much easier to communicate with other people. However it comes to a time where you will need to speak in Arabic, as some people don’t understand much of English. So one would try so hard talking in Arabic but there are words, which he/she can’t seem to think of in Arabic and would choose to use an English word.

So, like the examples that Az gave up there - as they happen to be the most frequent used words among all nationalities … not only Arab’s but even Indians – French – African and so on. I know for a fact that some of my Indian friends – when they speak to each other in there mother language they will end up using some English words.. Same with Tagaloc “Philippines where they would talk in there language and than say some words in Tagaloc.. and so on…

So I do find it very normal for one to bring some words from a different language within there main language… . When I speak I not only bring English words while speaking in Arabic but even French and Swahili…. And the same thing goes when I speak English I bring Arabic and French words or even Swahili into it. Its something I got used to it and I find it just all right.

I think when you say a little bit of English in-between it sounds great :P , oh well Americans and British ppl don't know how to speak Arabic and I think if they know they will do the same + we don't have to imitate them do we :P~~

Azure, atleast the words u have mentioned above are much better than using an english word with an arabic accent which most ppl dont know they are actually english, they think they are originally arabic. Like, ßČĘ which is actually "cupboard"... áíĘ which is actually "Light"... ćíáÇĘ which is "Wheels"...and so on.

I truly hate using these words, i mean, u either pronounce it right 'as an english word', or just say the word in arabic!!

That happens to me so much and I think its screwed up!
okay maybe sometimes it just happens , but what really bugs me is that I cant actually get the arabic word so I use the english one intead.

This is something I use alot : oh yaaah 9a7 walla
or : La walla? Seriously?
and plenty more.
And what bugs, is that I cant imagine myself not using english words. I wouldnt call it replacing with arabic .. hmmm , I dont know! Maybe it is! :lost:

And no , Americans and English ppl wouldnt use arabic words..

hahahahaha

the funniest thing is how some people say:
"I'm iktub-ing my waajeb".

:D :D

I do sometimes mix words, but not to that extent. I mean, look up there.. Whenever I hear someone speak like that I just burst into uncontrollable laughter.

it all depends on the person am speaking to , if he/she knows arabic only then am gonna speak in arabic only , if he/she knows english then english it is , and if he/she knows both.. then most likely am gonna mix..as is the case with most of my friends and family.

i just use whatever is easier to get the msg to the other person.

These are well known words like neena said. People all around the world use them, and not just us. Like ok, I can't imagine anyone in the world not using it!
It depends on what you're used to. And sometimes, it's just the first word that comes to your mind.
Doesn't necessarily mean that our wonderful language is fading.:)

yah well I guess its okay just as long as we know that arabic is and always will be our first language and our general speaking language.
It doesnt hurt to have the knowledge or to speak other languages just as long as the ppl around us understand what we r trying to say! :)

what surprises me the most is that even in governmental offices and top rank poeple use these words in their daily dialouge and even people from the interior who never learned English do.
i mean can't we for instance say "Na'am""Na3am" instead of "OK""YES"
or "Intahait min" instead of "already" ???

:angre: :bang:
