Egypt has decided to ban foreign belly dancers from performing the ancient act in the North African country, according to a recent report.

The state-owned al-Gomhouriya newspaper reported that a ruling by the Labor and Immigration minister would prevent non-Egyptians from receiving belly dancing licenses as of the beginning of next year.

"Labor and Immigration Affairs Minister Ahmed Al Amawi has taken a decision to ban foreigners from working as oriental dancers and tourist guides," the paper said.

Egyptian belly dancers are believed to have pressed for the ruling to prevent foreign dancers from "taking their work."

Lately, there has been an influx into the country of foreign performers, especially from Russia and Eastern Europe, who have taken up the exotic oriental traditional dance.

Several foreign women have reportedly risen to fame with their special act and talent, including an Argentinean, Russian and French dancer. Albawaba.com (http://www.albawaba.com/headlines/TheNews.php3?sid=257252&lang=e&dir=entertainment)

Even if the foreigners try to teach the dance, still it looks very different from the way egyptians dance.. I think it is fair.

Well, I am in between.
It's always the right thing to learn from other traditions and cultures, but some protect their traditions and keep it between them selves, which is okay!
