Its a fast emerging trend in sports nowdays that money is controlling the beauty of the game itself.....I dont have to mention the best example as you all know what it is....Chelsea with their rich russian at their helm buying players like oranges in a market is something extraordinary..
I would like to hear what do you guys think? Can Money buy Victory and championships? Not only football but in any sports....Is it a good thing or bad that money is now controlling sports?
Sorry if its a double question.
yes money can buy success. Jack Walker did it with Blackburn.
the important thing is to build a team for the future if success is to be maintained. and that's what Chelsea are doing. if you have noticed they're buying young players and the majority are British too which means they'll most probably stick around.
1. Glen Johnson (18)
2. Joe Cole
3. D Duff
4. W Bridge
we'll see those players wearing the blue top for at least another five years.
Can Money buy Victory and championships? Not only football but in any sports....Is it a good thing or bad that money is now controlling sports?Sure it can. I don't follow the game much, but as you mentioned "Not only football but in any sports...." the New York Yankees baseball team here in the states have done just what you said for decades.
Several sports here have initiated salery caps to try to stop a rich owner from just buying up all the quality players.
Chelsea couldnt do it, niether could real madrid. Infact a cash strapped team like Porto won the Elite European Championship cup.
What does this all say about my question - Money cannot buy victory. Maybe for the short term, not the long one.

You right Abs but if the coach is good in assembling the team the game is done.
Talking about soccer, can buy victory but not quality: look at italian championship, is the one of the richest in the world but not as good as it used to be, why? Cause when you play for victory at any risk, since so much money invested want a return, good game disappears.

Money is nont everythin' ! but it plays 1st rule in success!
Money + Good Management + Willingness
case wid Real last season is a big time example ! they ended season with no title ! no need to mention big names playin for real and how much did they cost the team !
In case of Chelsea , i think it's quite reasonable in the first season of Ibramovic : 2nd in the primiership , semi final in champions league ! so Money will play big rulein Chelsea's victory in the long term .
So we can't just say money has nothin to do with success , it does .

I guess it depends how the money is used
Yankees enjoyed success but have failed to achieve the past two seasons
Chelsea are looking good this season
Real still searching for identity

Not really. but, money is an important factor.
i would agree with "Navigator." Real madrid would be the best example. They couldn't win any title last year.

. :) Ditto! :)
Chelsea so far are proving everyone that money CAN buy victory. They are champions in almost everything so in 2004. But it's only half way though. Let's see the remainder of the season.

Money = Corrupsion
Manchester United got money by Success
Chelsea got success from money
As far as money is involved, as far as fiat's are involved. There is always Chelsea and Juventus.
The father of the current owner of Inter, Massimo Moratti used to bribe refferee's etc, but couldnt get his hand on refferee's at the cl, so this is one of the reasons why Inter are not doing well now, because Massimo Moratti "Uno Di Noi" hates bribing :D
I'll leave you with this:
