The best book that I've ver read is, The Day the Voices Stopped. This book was very emotional and gripping. I read it in about 3 hours. I will give a BRIEF summary of the book: a man is diagnosed with schizophrenia and has to make a life for himself while battling this confusing and difficult illness, Oh, yeah, and the book is an autobiography/memoir of Kenneth Steele.
I cannot tell you how much this book scared me. The ways in which Kenneth Steele described his life and experiences sent chills down my spine. The voices that spoke to him in the stages of his illness were very real. I couldn't forget the voices and what they'd said in the beginning of the book.
I especially enjoyed the way in which the illness changed Kenneth's life. He used his experiences to better the lives of those with mental illnesses/disorders. My best friend was diagnosed as being manic-depressive (bi-polar, if you're more familiar with that term) and even though that is drastically different from schizophrenia, I learned a lot about how these illnesses can overtake a person's life if not treated properly. Luckily ma best friend received help and medications and is doing 1000% better.
I have re-read this book so many times just because the perseverance and strength showed by Kenneth Steele amazes me. I highly recommend this book to everyone
