Ready for some stupid questions from fatak??? Sorry about that.....but I was wondering.
My questions.......Does the prayer time change everyday?
Is it always so exact...like 3:42PM....how do they decide that and who decides that?
Do you have to get up at 4:25AM??
What do you do at work or school?
Does everything just stop?
How long is the prayer session?
Are you allowed to start late?

Does the prayer time change everyday? Not really,, but they do change from time to time ofcourse.
Is it always so exact...like 3:42PM....how do they decide that and who decides that? They decide depending on the time when the sun rises or dawn.. The government does that!!
Do you have to get up at 4:25AM?? No !!
What do you do at work or school? Study at college..
Does everything just stop? STOP??!?!
How long is the prayer session? For me, it takes 5 to 7 minutes.
Are you allowed to start late? Late for what? Pray? or College? Pray,, I try not to. College,, rules!

Sorry i did not get the question nor the answer !
But i will comment according to my understanding of the question that is " Do we have to wake up at 4:25am to pray fajir?"
We all know that men are only to pray in the masjid not in the house, so if the prayer was at 4:25am we should wake up before that !
As for women then they also should wake up before the sun rises which means they would have half an hour extra of sleep, but then how could they hear the call for prayers and just ignore it to have extra sleeping time !
Actually, Fatak, excellent question, .....it is quite hypocritical!!!
Believe it or not...... most muslims pray according to those estimations without even questioning 'how' and 'why'.... the goverments does it and we should follow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
another hypocritical aspect is that astronmical calculations would be used for prayer times but not for new moon as in calculating the lunar months!!
However, the following astronmical estimations are usually done here:
For example,
atronmers found that fajr time starts when the sun is at angle of 13.5 degrees so this changes daily or according to season and that is how you get the accuracy in time.
Maghrib, is when the sun would reach a certian 'degree' and time changes accordingly and so on....
Hey thanks you Muscatis.........
I was curious to know.....if there's prayer time at 4:25AM...it means the men all get up 30 mins before and go to Mosque?
Then again at the schedule times they return to the mosque all the day?

I don't see much time in between to get much done........or get enough sleep and spend time with the family......
So all activities stop and people pray?
College classes, work etc etc....
Sorry to be so dumb..I don't have a clue about it, and have never visited a muslim country.

you dont need to get up thirty minutes before you go to mosque .. it depends how far the mosque is ... if it close by you dont need to wake up 30 minutes earlier .. just enough time to get freshed up and walk or drive to mosuqe.
Fatak, prayers take 10-20 minutes (max) so do you think its too much to do?? in your example: from 12:15 - 03:45 people at work until 2:30 .. so men gather togther and pray togther duhur at work (as I said it takes 20 minutes max) and when they come home, have lunch and rest and then comes the prayers.
activities dont stop, but during prayers times (especially maghrib because you have only one hour to pray) you will see the road quiter.
Seham, you are expecing every omani to go himself and calculate prayer times???
If you have trust in the Islamic Authourity of the country you dont need to go and check yourslef.
any way, nowadays there are many devices that help you know the praying times.
