Reading is what gets me through life lol. I love reading novels. Fantasies, adventures, tragedies, romances, biographies. Just about everything. I also like Shakespeare and Shakespearean poetry. As for my favourite author, I don’t have no one specific. I prefer the quality of the book rather than who wrote it.

Nora Roberts, she touches both worlds, first she takes u to the cruel cruel aspect of the world, just wen u are about to harden ur views, she goes all soft with romance,, reminding us

Duuuude, what's up with you reading these girly books?!
4-ever-young 11-08-03, 10:53 AM then what would you recommend mux?
Libellula 11-08-03, 11:10 AM lol, I remember the first romance novel I ever read was "Whitney My Love" by Judith McNaught. It was really moving.. :weep: This was like 4 years ago.
Ever since then I was hooked.. then last year I got fed up with all that love and happily ever after endings.. haven't touched one in a while. :sorry:
Muscati 11-08-03, 11:42 AM what do you like to read?
Mostly novels but I do read a lot of non-fiction. I usually shuffle 3 or 4 books at a time. Like for example at the moment I'm reading 3 novels and non-fiction book:
The Years of Rice & Salt, by Kim Stanley Robinson. A novel which imagines the past 700 years of history as they might have been if a plague had wiped out the population of Europe and the muslims and the Chinese emerge as the dominant civilizations of the world.
Catch-22, by Joseph Heller. A 20th century classic, a black comedy set in WWII.
The Company: A Novel of the CIA, by Robert Littell. A massive 1280 page novel that mixes historical and fictional characters with real events over the first 50 years of the history of the CIA. I've read 100 pages so far and I'm totally hooked.
The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, by Malcolm Gladwell. The author tries to explain why change so often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. For example, how does a novel written by an unknown author end up as national bestseller? Or how something that's been out of fashion can suddenly become a must-have item. The tipping point is the point at which an idea, a trend, a disease, etc reaches critical mass and becomes almost like an epidemic.
who dont you just dont get bored of reading?
I've never read an author who I didn't eventually get bored of. I have yet to find an author who's consistently worth reading. I've went through phases with authors such as Anne Rice, Carl Hiassen, Robert Luldlum, Tom Clancy and others. Carl Hiassen writes really quirky novels set in Florida which are extremely funny. He's the only author whose books always made me laugh out loud. Unfortunately after reading 4 or 5 of his novels I got bored of his consistent environmental themes. Tom Clancy writes great techno-thrillers, but his books keep getting bigger and bigger while the stories get thinner and thinner. He hasn't written anything great since the mid-90's. But his initial books were amazing.
Nowadays when I start a book I give it only 50 or 100 pages. If I'm still not hooked by then I stop and shelve it no matter who the author is. Life's too short to be wasting your spare time reading something not worthwhile.
what books would you recommend and why?
About A Boy and High Fidelity by Nick Hornby - two of the most enjoyable books I've read in my life. Even if you've seen the movies I'd still recommend that you read the books, particularly About A Boy.
The Mars Trilogy : Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. If you're a science-fiction fan then you probably read these already. The most prize winning sci-fi of the 90's, a magnificent epic imagining of man's colonization of Mars.
Dune by Frank Herbert. It captured my imagination like no other book when I first read when I was a teen. I re-read it again later and it was just as good.
Sho-Gun, Taipan and Noble House by James Clavell
