Its now a fashion to teach children English or French in favour of language of Quran. Parents feel so proud if the 2 or 3 years old kid can say “excuse me” or “thank you” instead “min fa’6lak” “law tisma7” or “shokran”
I am not against learning new languages because its so great to speak other nations tongue. The topic here concerns about the Provocations that our Arabic suffers nowadays with new generation are brought up with other identity instead of our PRIDE identity.
SAD, isnt it??

I agree with u a lot of ppl in the mean time prefer teaching their children these languages and the worstpart is that they feel proud as u said.To tell u the truth it's a problem in ppl's hearts .A lot of ppl think that westrenising thier children means that they r like the west thinkin that the west are better than us and more develpoed and all that. It's what we call in Arabic "taqleed a3ma " ppl don't relize that the important thing that we should take the good things from more develpoed countries and leave the bad they think we should immitate them excaxtly.
Another thing I've noticed is that when these English,Dutch or whatever (let's say white ppl) come to our countries they treat them as if they were kings and Queens and beleive me from living here(UK) I could tell u that the ppl who come to our countries come from the ghettos and slums and the reason why they came to tour countries is that they couldn't be anything in thier own countries. It really pisses me off when I c them gettin paid better than if an Omani person was doin the same job.Ofcourse this is not always the case.
One more thing is that teenagers like speaking in English thinkin that that will make them look coool.I've met a lot of ppl who speak to me in English but I reply to them in Arabic not because I don't know how to speak the language but because I'm proud of my language and wouldn't exchange for another.Being Cool doesn't mean I have to be able to speak good english.
I think parents should relise the importance of our language and I find arabic the most beautiful language.WHen u speak or write with other languages u have to find the words to express but when u speak with arabic the words express everything.if u get what I mean

i guess parents are teaching their kids different languages coz it would be easier for them to learn it then if they were older! and maybe, just maybe coz the parent always had this fantasy of learning a new language which they never had the time for, they want their kids to finish where they left off!

It's true that it's good to teach children other languages but WE have to make sure that Arabic is thier mother language and that they speak arabic fluently.I learned both languages at a very small age coz I was livin in England but my mom made sure that we spoke Arabic at home and so it's my mother language which I'm proud of .

I'm sorry for these ppl cos they didn't have the chance to discover and explore the beauty of Arabic. And for ur information ppl in England are amazed when u tell them u speak more than one language and a lot of them find speaking Arabic the COOL thing not the other way round so u can s how ironic it ends up for those ppl who don't teach thier children how to speak Arabic.Or those who speak English thinkin it's the cool thing to do
kamakazy,i can't imagine how an omani is not able to speak his own language??i would never guess that this kind of people exist,it's really a shame.
it's easier for a child to learn a language when he is young, that's why parents in general try to learn them english or any other foreign language, but if the parents don't insist on learning arabic, the child will automaticly prefer english cause it's more simple, i m sure that arabic it's the most beautiful language ever,i never heard for a so amazing poetry in another language,we have got so many words ,expressions, style, the beauty of the sounds ,and even the writing, but ...it's far from being the easiest, that's why some person give up from going deeper in it,and they end up by prefering english,i found myself arabic a litle bit hard ,i love it only when i get the knowledge to anderstand the poetry( el mou3allakaat,el moutannabi,el hamadany,...),so may be that the parents have to wait until their children will be fluent in arabic to teach them english or whatever, when u speak arabic it's very easy to learn another language, but try to teach arabic to an european....i see here in france they are not even able to speak english correctly,so arabic.. :)
yeah, reena I agree with most of what you said and yeah Arabic can so difficult which might prevent people from going deeper into it. However, we are talking about
kids who must know and understand how to speak the language in a correct way as they should inherit it from their Arab-Muslim parents.
yeah its much easier to learn another language at an early stage but this shouldn’t affect Arabic at all. Teach your children other language after you have made sure that they can speak Arabic fluently.
The other thing is this Pride of speaking English should vanish.
