Before those new centers and complexes were started in oman.. everyone was complaining...

@ That we don't have descent centers to go to
@ We don't have world-wide shops participating in our economy
@ The place is boring and those centers just.... has nothing!!!

Now that those centers are opened... you go in and the place is crowded..

You go into a shop... It's Empty!!!!
You go into another shop.... you see the cashier sitting talking on the phone... and It's Empty!!!

People just go there to hang around... it's only few who leave a shop with a bag in their hand!!

How would you expect to have descent centers with nice shops.... if there is no market to market the products!!

Maybe the main reason that the prices are high in such places and above most Omani people budgets.

Evillio, I think I agree with ice tea ..
the income in Oman is lower than other places.
lookat those shops when there are sales, its soooo crowded .. it means that what attract customers are bargning prices, if shops cant find customers, they should know how to attract customers :)

Well Arby.... then i guess that shop owners would find it more profitable for them to open such shops in neighboring countries than to open them in oman!

Why would a shop owner want to open a shop in oman if he knows that a small amount of ppl would buy his products and most will wait for the sales to pop in the shop?!

Putting in mind that we have a very competing market considering that we are next to a famous shopping central..Dubai?

the shop owner shouldnt wait for sales, he/she should creat the enviroment that attracts customers. The point is, a sale doesnt always means less profit! this might be in the mind of the customer but actually when they have sale or discount on certain products, it attracts customers which makes them buy other products which are not in sale ..
tel me how many times you entered a shop on sale and ended buying stuff u dont really need! its just the idea, if I dont buy it now, I might need later when its higher in price!!

well, every country have its demopgraphic. Dubai is a tourists attraction, it doesnt only deoend on the people of Dubai, this is why they have a good market to sell the product.

If a shop owner wants to survive, they have to study the patters of the consumers of this certain country and make thier goals accordingly. There is always ways to sell you products, as long as you can market them well!

Well done Evy. You've hit the nail on the head so to speak :

1: Very realistic point and practical indeed. Our city is already reduced to 'town' and Dubai to 'city'. Let those concerned with economic planning do a survey on the border and no doubt the result will be shocking if they have a shocking sense at all.

2: We are in fact in neighbourhood of a business center of the world.

Dubai as a tourist center has nothing to compare with Oman. We have more than what they have in terms of natural attractions for trourism. But, but for them it is money that matters and not traditional heritage that we "preserve" instead of 'exploiting. Our ancestors seems to have done better in terms of trade whilst we master Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Our cultural values are erroding ladies and gentlemen :sorry:

The malls that are sprung all over us are a sad news to the owners whose incomes hardly pay for the electricty and cleaning respectively to maintain the place.

We're paying the price of Omanisation that makes a single hand clapping a reality. It is the government alone that is playing the music and those supposed to dance are 'audiencing' so to speak.
