View Full Version : People will judge you by your clothes/shoes
"Even if you're just wearing the basics, you're sending a message whether you want to or not....your shoes tell whether you're all work or all play, things like crazy dresses and revealing shirts say, "Notice me!"
If you're wearing a sleek pair of flats, the message you're sending is that you want to look good, but that you have work to do.
The women's opera boot of the mid-'1800s might look a bit fussy and girly today, but it actually was a step forward in women's liberation. Before that, only men were allowed to wear boots.
In the 20th century movie stars like Marilyn Monroe made the stiletto heel popular. This shoe was really about a woman's sensuality and power so next time you see a woman wearing one....." ;)
What do you all think?
(BTW, the thread is for women AND men)

My view on it goes just like this saying 'Never judge a book by its cover' ... cover as in clothes and superficial character.
Few can afford sleek shoes, many can't ... doesn't make the person who wears bathroom slippers everywhere less-sociable. Wearing good clothes though, gives a sign to the others that you are neat/sociable ... ummm, thats it ... lol
Homeless 23-07-03, 03:07 AM Well I do agree that u should never judge a book by its cover ans what u c isnt always what u get
sometimes people can missjudge ur character just by the way u dress and get the wrong idea or impression about who u r and what u r like but then again, alot of us choose what we wear to give out some kind of message, So I do agree with ur artivle 'RA.
Sometimes the way u dress does bring out ur personality and even explains what message u r trying to send by a certain outfit or shoe that is why we c different people with different styles and tastes. Yet we shouldnt judge a persons charector based on their clothes!
well shinoda. i do agree about not "judging a book by its cover' But you dont have to wear sleek shoes to represent your self. Sometimes a person can wear champalz(slipperz) with cheap cloaths but he appears neatly and the neatness in him/her will represent her personality....
Its all about someone and the way they control their appearance by what and how they can..
I personally always respect people who take care of themselves by anymeans. someone can own just one pair of everything and still look neat in it..
p.s. nice Article RA!
Shinoda LP 26-07-03, 01:22 AM What's up peeps? Don't want to post here?
Najah, I agree. If you dress neatly, use colognes and deodrants and wear sleek shows, you'll be noticed.
But, I prefer to judge a person by his/her character, thought and intelligence than solely by his/her dressing styles.
What you say is correct though :)

I think in Oman especially, people sadly judge others by what they are wearing or not wearing.
It is a fact that anything scrafy, dirty or smelly will have a slim chance to give a positive impression...anything neat, clean and attractive will have a slim chance to give a negative impression.
For some people, presentation and appearance is very important, while for others it is not. Some people might think that they are dressed cool when in fact they look like clowns...others might think that they smell nice when in fact they stink so bad ect...at the end, it all depends of your perception of things around you.
well..of course one shouldnt judge a person by what he/she wears...but i dunno.. it surely does say alot about the personality of that individual .
and as am not really into fashion and stuff , i dont care if one is up to date with his/her clothing or not. all i care is that it's respectable and doesnt exceed the limits .
Corrupt angel 26-07-03, 01:46 PM It's no that you shouldn't wear cool stuff so ppl don't say your a show off or something, I wouldn't go out wearing these old clothes or sumthin.....i mean it's not you it's the people, the shouldn't judge you for how you look or dress....I mean that's really bad, you should look at the person from the inside!!!
4-ever-young 26-07-03, 06:27 PM well to me clothes are simply different types of materials stiched together in different ways nad different styles for ppl to wear..and it really doesnt matter what one wears and it is certainly not something you judge one by...and if you do well you need to know and get familiar with something called personality!!
Man....... You guys totally misunderstood me. :lost: :duh:
What I meant was that an item of clothing can show a part of your personality.
If you wear black all the time most likely you are either : sad, gothic or trying to blend in..... (or something else).
When you wear crazy, flashy colours it can show that you are wild, like to experiment and aren't afraid to show yourself/stand out.
Wearing alot of loose clothes (when it's not for style or religious reasons) might mean you are uncomfortable with your body and like to hide it.
Wearing flats can mean you are a working person and prefer comfort over style........
........ect.

ok now i get it..well i guess i woudl not judge a person from how they dress as it can be a mood thing..so if for example a person is tierd but needs to go out they might just put anything on (hoping that no one will see them)..and if one is happy will take extra time to dress well..so i see it as a mood thing!
