Yesterday a lady came to my house asking for FOOD not money and she started to eat like she didn't eat for
days.
Did we really reach to this level of poverty in Oman??
What do u have to say about beggars?

Now thats new!!

The beggars who pass by our place are always asking for money. If you give 'em food, they'll probably throw it in ur face.
Sometimes they even specify the amount of money the actually want!

Some of them park their cars at the end of the road, and then they go from house to house, pretending to be poor. Ahh well, life goes on...

I have seen different types of beggars in my area, I think its roundabout because they come with different stories everyday

1)Omanis - sometimes comes its bunch of ladies with kids, normal asking for money with specific amount, no food is required, if you don't give some money, you get cursed in return.

2) Palestinians - Again ladies, asking for whatever you can give them, but watchout sometimes you get them to be thieves.

4a)Bangladeshis - Normal religious men (mullah types) with longbeard, they'll ask you if you can help them to build some religious school back home and if interested they'll show you all the papers confirming the existance of that project but hey its not end I was surprise once I was talking with one of them and suddenly they saw police in patrol they were shaking and ran. It got me thinking that this is another type of begging but using religious means.

5) Pakistanis - If you have been to grand Mosque, there's this pakistani guy roaming around with his family in the car. He look decent and respected guy, he'll come-up saying that, he comes all the way from Sohar or wherever and has no enough cash for fuel to get back to home. I thought it just happened to me only or once occassion I heard same story with different time and date from about 10 people.

6) Indians - Will pop-up showing you his phyisical disabilities expecting some cash in return.

Sorry if I offend anyone but just obersavation.

The question is that Oman poor or not...

Oman is not poor my dear , But Oman have lots of professional theifs and in high places .
Bunch of them costing the Oman economy 50% which goes in to their pockets and the rest God knowe where it gose..

Who can live with 120/= ??
Where does 900.000 barrel of oil daily goes to ?
take ROP and guess how much they make a year !!
Take Ministry of Manpower how much they gain per 1 employee ( none Omani) 105/= a head. We have over 600, 000 None omani .. ok pick up your calculators and start counting.
I say a new policy has to take place and an Omani have to be proud as he is one and not to sing the national anthem whereby his children are begging or just about to survive.....

I don't think some people necessarily become poorer; however, I feel that some find begging easier than work. This is something to worry about, as the number of beggers increases every months and the men encourage their female relatives or wives to do it!

I remember bringing a similar topic in the Problems Sabla few months back 'Omanis coming to beg' (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8088), and the situation didn't change.

Not only at our workplace, but even at our home, Omanis ladies come nearly on a daily basis to beg for money, clothes or even for food.

Wandering if the government is trying to do something about that...
