View Full Version : Friends are rare Jewels

There once was a little girl who had a bad temper. Her mother gave her a bag of nails and told her that every time she lost her temper, she must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day the girl had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as she learned to control her anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. She discovered it was easier to hold her temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the girl didn't lose her temper at all. She told her mother about it and the mother suggested that the girl now pull out one nail for each day that she was able to hold her temper.
The days passed and the young girl was finally able to tell her mother that all the nails were gone. The mother took her daughter by the hand and led her to the fence. She said, "You have done well, my daughter, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. " You can put a knife in a person and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.
Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

I thought I knew what friendship was all about but now im lost and confused
People whom I thought were my bestfriends, turned me down real bad..
Who is there to trust out there?!
But it's true .. real friends r hard to find.

Very nice posts nana and I might buy my bag of nails tomorrow and use this tip for my kids little temper too :)

I agree that true friends are rare to find and I mentioned it in a recent post. We might have 1 thousand good acquaintances around us but it doesn't mean that we can really count on them in good and in bad, and at any time and in any circumstance.

True friendship is tested through time and through experience.

I think theres no true friend like ur mothers if some of u haven't noticed it now u might notice it later because ur mother will always be there for u no matter what ! :color:

Everyone's said it - true friends are hard to find. I think it has to do with "trust" mainly. Very few people are trustworthy..

I thought someone was my "Best friend" once, but she let me down. Now I dont trust her at all. As Phoenix said, Its mostly about trust.

I guess the closest people to me now, are my relatives. At least with them, there is "trust".;)

u know what, I totally agree with u and support u 100%
it's so so true gurl!
I never used to be close to my mother..
But now we r so close 7amdellah. S'he's the only one who's going to have ur BEST interest in heart. SHe will always put u first no matter what and will never let u down.
I never knew that. Recently I realised that my mum is my one and only best friend and no matter how bad things get, she will never turn her back on me.

This is so touching.. I just kissed her and thanked her and she has no idea why!! :P

Sometimes I miss treat her when I am in a bad mood or feeling down. She would just try to help. It kills me when I hurt her!!

well i really believe in it. i know true friends are hard to find therefore we have to be patient and not trust to whom ever is avaiiable. well for myself have a wonderful best friend who was there for me in every little thing in my life although got to know her few years back but what i have expereinced with her i found her the best ever. bytheway i know many frineds by she's the most i trust. Another thing, we sometimes think that if we spend too much time with people that these people are our friends ( true friends) it's not true always.

I have also been through bad times with friends well thought they were but they werent . True friends are there and dont believe anything they hear from outside unless you tell it by yourself.
well yeah, mothers are our best friends but some of us are not aware of this issue. sometimes they wouldnt leave us do what we want to do but that does mean that they hate us they are just over pretecting us.

I love my mother sooo much..... she loves me tooo:)
ALLAH keep her for me AMEEN

in our lives we meet aloooooooooooot of people but only maybe 5% of them were true and loyal and really love you for who you are..
But that is how life is, we meet people and we move on and those people dont always move on with us, thts why we feel that they left us and betrayed us..
however I belive in every1's life your family should come 1st , they are the only ones who gonna b there 4 u always, and the comes those 5% who were real loyal and true people who stayed there through good and bad..

I've read it before too. We should always be careful to what we say to others. I've been hurt a few times, but I tend to look over it, but it makes you feel terrible, so we really need to be more careful. Mo is right, we should let that temper out sometimes, lol, ask my sisters, whenever I'm in a bad mood, I have a fight with them, but at the end we're sisters, we fight one minture, we're good the next, and I've also been blessed with some really good friends, whom I can really trust!
