The most awaited Gold Market in town finaly its opened. Here the news.
MUSCAT — Sheikha Aisha bint Khalfan bin Jameel Al Siyabiah, president of the Public Authority for Craft Industries, yesterday declared open the high-profile Muscat Gold Market, the very first such venture in the Sultanate.
As gold jewellers continue to do their bit to set trends, the Muscat Gold Market has made a memorable debut by opening a real gold souq.
While appreciating Al Habib & Co for setting up such a specialised complex, Sheikha Aisha called for greater support to the shopping mall.
She said she was quite optimistic that the exclusive gold market would bring in excellent prospects to the occupants.
Well ahead of the formal opening, a large number of women had gathered at the market to have a look at exotic and exclusive jewellery brought in by Al Damas, Ramesh and Devji jewellery companies.
In all, the $5 million project has 22 shops, with 50 per cent occupancy. Ali Malallah Habib, managing director of Al Habib & Co, told reporters that in the near future six kiosk-type showrooms would be set up inside the mall.
“We are talking to many top names and are hopeful they would also open stores at the market, which provides exclusive ranges from Al Damas, Devji Jewellers, Ramesh Jewellers and Al Dalu Jewellery.
The market also has prayer rooms and a cafeteria.
The concept of the project took shape almost a decade ago. Initially, the market was to have opened during September 2001, but terrorist attacks on the United States during the said period forced Al Habib & Co to postpone it.
However, with top notchers having opened shutters at the spacious and aesthetically-designed mall, it is only a matter of time before others follow suit.
The new gold market, with a wide range of fashionable jewellery collections and designs, will appeal to buyers as the occupants have promised a number of schemes.
Damas has offered to lower the making charges on jewellery, besides extending existing schemes to buyers at the gold market as well. Devji Jewellers has said it would give away an attractive jewellery pouch to every buyer of gold jewellery at its shop.
Tamjeed Abdulla, managing director of Al Damas, said his company would be setting up an exclusive boutique in Muscat in the next six months. He said international collections would be made available at this boutique immediately after their launch in other parts of the world.
Damas has occupied the largest space at the market.
A wide range of 22ct and 18ct fine gold jewellery, besides diamond collection and watch collections, are displayed at the showroom.
Tamjeed said his company was trying to reach out to Omanis with globally-acclaimed trends so that they are standardised with what is in vogue in the region and elsewhere in the world.
“Innovation has still not reached Oman. With our wide range of international designs, we will bring the innovative global designs and standards to Oman to keep them on par with the rest of the world in respect to gold jewellery,” he added.
The gold market has two key Bahraini jewellers — Devji Jewellers and Ramesh Jewellers.
Ramesh Jewellers specialises in Bahraini pearl jewellery. Karan, manager at the showroom, claims that pearls used in the jewellery were original ones with hallmark 21ct gold.
Bahrain’s famous name Devji has stacked exclusive ranges for Oman’s style-conscious jewellery-lovers.
